I Can't Get There From Anywhere But Here

This spring I created a new user name and a new Spark People account; I'm starting over with the goal of getting healthier and more fit. I've been on a couple of "successful" diets before (losing 65 and later 40 pounds) but haven't been able to keep it off. I'm not dieting this time, although I AM tracking my food and making more healthful choices. I plan to make slower, smaller changes with the intent to keep it off this time. I am also fortunate to have a WONDERFUL OB/Gyn who's going to be ...

I am also fortunate to have a WONDERFUL OB/Gyn who's going to be following my progress; I couldn't wish for a better mentor for accountability and non-judgmental goal setting.

My Goals:
Ultimately I'd like to lose about 100 lbs, but my goal right now is to go from 266 to 250 per my OB/Gyn. [edit: done, ahead of schedule! Current goal 220 by my next f/u]
I want to be healthier, to fit comfortably into seats in theaters, roller coasters and airplanes, and never have to worry that I'll need a seat belt extender. I want to shop for clothing in the Ladies' section. I want to order clothes and bathing suits online. I want to participate in things WITH my family, not near them. I want to make my family proud.

My Program:
I gradually added exercise after getting the OK from my PCP [typically cardio x 25 mins 5-6d/wk + strength x 10 mins 4-5 d/wk].
I track my foods religiously while allowing myself occasional off-plan indulgences. We plan ahead and shop ahead and are significantly reducing our restaurant consumption [well, we'd planned to anyway...]

Personal Information:
I'm from the Virginia Beach area currently living in Phoenix, AZ. I've been happily married for almost 23 years and we have a wonderful, studious, articulate, polite, empathetic and all-around-terrific teenaged girl (yes, really!)

Other Information:
My favorite quote has always been "Stupidity Should Be Painful", but I've coined a new one all my own to live by: "I can't get there from anywhere but here".
Of course there's always, "A year from now, you'll wish you'd started today".
My newest one: "Failure is a bruise, not a tattoo." ~Timber Hawkeye (Buddhist Bootcamp)

I have been monitoring my PH through blood work . Eat mostly alkaline foods - favorite cook book Back to the House of Health by Shelly and Robert Young . The general rule of thumb is to eat 20 % acid foods and 80 % alkaline foods . Fresh fruit juice also supplies your body with plethora of alkaline substances also supplements such as potassium , cesium , magnesium , calcium and rubidium .
Acid forming foods to limit - soda , coffee , alcohol , chocolate , tobacco , aspartame , meats , oysters , fish , eggs ( I do consume egg whites) - chicken , pasteurized milk - processed grains , sugar , peanut butter and pasta .
Good Read Dr. Robert Young Sick and Tired pg 59
I have done tons of research and am currently obtaining a degree in Herbal Master Healing - after years of watching my family and many others die of horrific forms of Cancer , I myself was diagnosed for the third time - stage three - I also worked in Hospice for many years - there are cures for Cancer however the cures do not generate a profit for big Pharma - thanks for your support - if you have questions ask - Hugs K

I can tell you speak from experience. Thanks for your comments. They make a lot of sense. I think you hit it on the head of why this food reward works for me. You made some points I had not thought about before.

Thanks for visiting, reading my blog, and for your thoughtful response.

Congratulations on your progress.

Have a great day.

Hi -- I saw your post on a board about losing weight, and noticed one of your goals was to hike to havasupai. I just thought that was an awesome goal. I've done that hike twice actually (I love to hike), but it's been awhile. Keep up with it -- you are doing awesome, and those pools will be well worth the trip!
