Turn Some Pages

My name is Ginny and I am a 47 year old wife and mom of 4, living in Southern California. The last 10 years have passed by so quickly, taking care of everyone else that I kind of lost myself. Turning 46 seemed to wake me up -suddenly I wanted to make changes and live a more active lifestyle. I was listening one day to an old REO Speedwagon song and heard, "If you're tired of the same old story - turn some pages..." That is my new mantra!! I AM tired of the same old story and so every day I am turning some new pages. I have started slowly: first adding regular walking, then drinking more water, then joining sparkpeople, and now tracking my food online and working out with weights. I have now lost 95 pounds - about 40% of my body weight!! But more importantly, my body feels different. I am slowly changing from a slug into a runner- I am logging in an average of 4-6 miles a day - walking outdoors and running on the treadmill. I still have a long way to go - 34 pounds to lose to reach my goal, but every day is better than the way I was living in 2011. I am excited to be on this journey and look forward to making changes in lots of other areas of my life!!

One of the best things to happen this past summer was feeling like I now am normal sized - I fit in every chair, booth and amusement park ride - often with lots of room to spare...I am no longer humiliated or embarrassed by my size. I am not skinny, but I am not huge anymore either... and I am never, ever going back!!

My Goals:
My big goal is to lose 120 lbs and raise my fitness level from slug to runner!!
My smaller goal is always going to be just 5 more pounds!
I'd like to be able to run and play with my kids without getting tired, to be slim enough to buy a wetsuit and finally meet my daughter's challenge to learn to surf. I'm really looking forward to cuter clothes. Tired of being a fat mama!!!

Recently I find I don't want to just be thinner - I want to be really fit with defined muscles...I want to see if there really is an athlete lurking within!!

My Program:
I am using the 28 day bootcamp workout 3 days a week, and walking on the treadmill 5-6 days a week. I also walk about two miles 3 days a week with a good friend. Have added in some wii step aerobics! Drinking LOTS of water. I am enjoying eating more whole foods. Staying away from sugar and processed foods.
Tracking my calories - trying to stay around 1300 calories. Eating protein at every meal, and 8-10 fruit and veggie servings a day. Whole grains every now and then. A little red wine two days a week as a treat.

I totally agree! Really wish I had an "in between" as well, but just like you, for me it's all or nothing... I've been doing well lately though. Tonight, I was craving total junk, but had Subway instead which kept me within all of my limits! It was enough to get rid of the cravings, of course not my top choice. But while losing weight you generally should not be having your top choice ;) Yes, let's keep on going towards our goals! WE CAN DO IT!!! xx

I hear you about the slow process, I haven't lost anything since December.... but here I am still plugging away! Good job on the persistence! You will get there, and in the meantime every good decision counts!

Hi, thanks for stopping by my page, and for the imagery of the sculptor chipping away at stone! I love it! I will keep that image in my mind as you did and I know it will help me.

Hi, just stopping by to say hello, and congratulations on your wonderful health, fitness, and weight loss journey. You have come so far! Thanks for sharing your inspiring story of how far you have come, on your sparkpage. I had lost 20 lbs in the fall and then regained it over the holidays and the first few months of this year. But now I am continuing on my health and wellness journey!
Best of luck on your future fitness adventures!
