Have joined the Winter 5% Challenge where I will challenge myself to lose 5% of my body weight in 60 days. That will be 13.5 lbs. by January 28. I have set specific goals which are as follows.
1. Track food each day and stay within parameters
2. Drink 14 glasses of water per day
3. Weigh in 1x per week and record my progress in a weekly blog
4. Include at least 25 g of fiber in my diet each day
5. Consume no more than 1500mg of sodium per day
6. Do at least 30 min of cardio 3x per week
7. Do strength exercises for at least 30 min 3x per week
8. Track all my exercise minutes and weekly challenges each day.
9. Make contact with my larvae at least 3X/week.
Recently turned 60 and realized it was now or never to get serious about my health. Have been at this healthy lifestyle for about 5 wks now and have made the commitment to stay this way for the rest of my life, not just until I reach my weight goal. I am truly "obese" and know I have a lot of work to do, but I am encouraged by my support group here and the encouraging texts I read on Spark People.

My desire and goal is to be spiritually active and aware, mentally alert, emotionally well grounded, and physically healthy and fit. I have in excess of 100 pounds to lose, so I will be at this for awhile. For the rest of my life, in fact. However, I am a many faceted person and I need to realize that I must keep from focusing my mind on only one aspect of my person. As I have learned from painful past experience, that will only lead to disappointment and, ultimately, utter failure. I have nutritional goals, exercise goals, etc. which I will list, but I also have other goals that are just as, and in some cases, even more important than any of those.
Short term physical goals include
1. Staying within my nutritional limits each day
2. Log in my food intake each day. It keeps me honest and accountable.
3. To attend my weight support group each week for education, support and to keep from internalizing defeat.

I am on a 6 small meal a day, fairly high protein diet. I eat between 1300 and 1400 calories a day. All my nutrition goal levels are within the recommended range, so nothing bizarre. I find I have much more energy and fewer craving/binges when I am eating small, regular meals. The protein lasts with me longer and burns slower that just carbs or high sugar alternatives. Am keeping my fiber and fruit/veg counts up where they need to be as well. Drink at least 12 glasses of H2O a day. I am also keeping my sodium level at under 1500/day. That is really the hardest part.
I live in Florida, was raised and born here, quite unusual for this state. I am a former English teacher, an RN, an acupuncturist and also work part time as a deli clerk. I have 5 children, all grown and one still living at home. I have been hibernating and opting out of living a full life for many years and have decided that is no longer an option. I want to get out of my shell and experience life, have friends and be active again.
I absolutely love to cook. Trying out new recipes is something I could do all day long. I also love to teach. I hope to have my own weight loss class one day soon and be able to teach others proper nutrition and how to nourish the proper attitude to boldly go where they should have already been and have a good time getting there.
