Hi - I saw your question on Coopsm's blog asking about what does it mean to be "in training". Most people, when wanting to run a certain distance race, will find a training plan. There are lots of free ones out on the Internet, or you can buy a book or consult with a trainer/running coach. As Coopsm says, the plan will gradually increase the distance of each run, which builds your strength and endurance to go the entire distance of the race. Depending on the distance of the race and the level of the runner, you will be running 3 to 6 times a week for a period of 8 to 20 weeks. This range encompasses 5K (3.1 miles) to a full marathon (26.2 miles). So when someone says they are "in training" it means that they have a race in mind and they are working towards finishing (or improving a previous time) for that distance.

Hi---you question on training for a run....just slowly increasing distance for the race that you want to do...you can't just go out and expect to run a race...esp the longer distances....
