I'm a boyfriend, baker, and book lover; a cook; a cat and dog person; an educator; and more. Here I'll record the goings on relating to my nutrition, fitness, and general well being. Asides on entertainment, current events, and philosophy are frequent.
In 2012 I dropped a lot of pounds and several pants and shirt sizes. In 2013 my goals are to:
- maintain my weight within about 5lbs, either direction
- put on a few pounds of muscle and lose the last flab
- get into better cardiovascular condition
- develop better habits regarding exercising, time management, and self-directed learning.
I'd like to do a C25K this year.
I eat three meals a day and occasionally small snacks. I sleep eight hours a night, cook almost all my meals myself, eat less meat than I used to, and keep good track of what I consume.
I am returning to a modification of 5BX for calisthenics, along with some body weight exercises for strength & toning, and short videos for cardio.

Born in Oregon, raised in Idaho, college in California, most of my adulthood in Wisconsin, several years in central Europe, and now in Alabama for over two years -- that's my geography in a nutshell.
Three books that best encapsulate me might be: "Gödel, Escher, Bach" (D. Hofstadter), "Faust" (Goethe), and "House of Leaves" (Mark Z. Danielewski). When it comes to movies, I always find myself returning to The Dude, but I'm also in constant awe of Orson Welles and "Metropolis." I prefer Marvel to DC, Emacs to vi, Python to Perl, and love cats and dogs equally.

Thanks for liking my beans! Two weeks ago it was great northern beans. Not sure which it will be this week. The black bean cakes were the first I'd ever made, they were very good with the pineapple salsa on top. The only change I'd make is leaving out the corn meal, I didn't like that texture. Maybe coating the whole thing in cornmeal would be better than mixing it in.
