My two best friends were just diagnosted borderline diabetics....and i don't want to be one too................
I will have to change my eating lifestyle. My best friend Cindy at work.....and my best friend Edsel at home have BP, colesteral, and now diabetic problems.
We eat together....working, home, parties, share food all the time. And we are the age where our friends are dying because of these complications.
I want to loose 50 pounds. So I joined a local "all ladies" gym, and started going 5 days a week, after work. It was fun! and I stuck with it.....by myself....
Now Cindy and Edsel are diabetics.................
I am 6 months into circut gym, and lost almost 30 pounds.
I haven't seen my brother, who lives across town, in almost a year. June will be a year, and i want to loose 15 more pounts by then, and visit him. He will be surprised!
I also have started downloading "health, loosing weight" podcasts, and listen almost daily. This has been very motivational.
I finally figured out my "weakness" during Christmas. I am a "social eater", can't leave food alone when i am with others who are splurging. Especally at work. So many sweets!!!
My diet is "meat, fruit, and vegs, snacks of nuts, cheese , and yoguart". I don't have to "count" anything, This is a modified low-carb, or staying away from mostly "white stuff". I can give up potatoes, rice, breads ( sugar is harder!!) easier than following someone's elses diet plan.
After 1 year on this plan, "on 5 days, off 2" has become my mantra....weekends have a place in my diet....my free down time of not thinking about "diet"!
I'm healthier than anyone i know my age (59)!!!!!!
UPDATE: Aug 2007......50 pounds in 52 weeks!!!! I have arrived!!!!!
UPDATE: April 2009....started interval running!!! Got off 10 more pounds, and TWO inches off my hips!
UPDATE: March 2010....ran first (and last!) 10K! Got a medal for 2nd place in females, age 55-59 !!!! (It was a small race...72 runners, i was 71 ....lol)
I know that i MUST get my weight right for my heath to be right. I don't want a heart attack or bypass surgery like my brother. I don't want to go on dialysis or loss my legs or eyesight or teeth to diabetes like my boyfriend's relatives because i couldn't control my sweets.
I don't want to see size 18 ever again!
I don't want to be on medication because of my high weight like blood pressure.
I don't want to give out after climbing 1 flight of stairs.
Now that i am accountable about what i don't want....i can get on with goals that will change me!!! This time I am determined!!!!!!!
1. Meats, vegetable and fruits 5 days a week, snacks of cheese, eggs, yogart .
2 group exercise ... 5 days a week with walking/ interval slow jogs. total 1 1/2 hr a day ...but it's fun!!!
3. off plan 3 days a week.

will retire in 4 years!!!!

Not a close relationship with brother or sister...occational email.
I enjoy my job...aviation.
I just cleansweeped my household, and organising my closets and drawers.
Was part-time caregiver to my parents who passed away 4 years ago.
