Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Thirty something, weight loss has been a lifelong struggle exacerbated by life as professional (i.e. I spend about 12 hrs per day in my office) with little time for myself and exercise. Now add the fear that I'm teaching my teen daughter bad habits.

I am making changes. Now I wake up at 4:30 or 5:00 a.m. and workout before heading out for the day. If I don't make time for myself, who's going to? My daughter will have the example she deserves and I will have the healthy, fit body ...

My Program:
Working out 6 days per week for at least 60 minutes. I'm doing it at home for now because it's hard to get to the gym on my schedule. Right now Jillian Micheals is my trainer of choice. I also use a stationary bike at home for an average of 30 mins per day.

Update 6/2013- I've hired a
personal trainer to help me with strength training 2x weekly.

As for food, I am counting calories and restricting myself to 1400-1500 per day and trying the low-carb way of eating.

Personal Information:
From the Northeast but not originally.

Smooth sailing, yes. I had my TB test read today and it showed negative, so now it's just the physical and drug test. Even with my laundry list of injuries, I can work through any thing they throw at me during the physical (will probably require a lifting test of some sort). As for the drug test, since I've never taken any illegal drug I should be fine there. My drugs of choice are an occasional Vicodin for pain and a fine Scotch when I'm in the mood and of course my frappucinos :)

Thanks for the blog comment. I agree, Babe's advice was good. Unfortunately there's a large chasm between getting good advoce and implementing good advice!

On the plus side, I went and got my finger prints done today for my background check and also got my skin injection for my TB test. Now I just have to wait for my background clearance to pass, take a drug test and pass a physical and I will be able to start working. Maybe this time next month I'll actually get to go to work!

Thanks for the blog comment. It wasn't much of a loss, but when you get used to posting more gains than losses, every downward swing is good!

Had an interview today for the substitute job, seemed to go well. Hopefully I'll be back in the land of the wage earners again soon.

Thanks for the blog comment. I'm trying to keep my chin up, really I am. But it's difficult when I eat 1500 calories or less and still gain weight! In fact, if I eat over 1000 calories of solid food in a day, I gain weight!! But I'm trying, I've been taken supplements for the last week (zinc, vitamin D3, flaxseed oil and a probiotic), hoping to help my digestive system. I'm doing this in an effort to help with my psoriasis which may be a symptom of digestive issues leading to liver dysfunction. At least that's the thinking because Dr.'s don't really have a clue what causes it. The only treatments are topical, which quit working after a while or immuno-suppressants which have sooo many side effects (and are expensive!).
