I joined Sparkpeople on March 4, 2009 and lost 17 pounds during my first year. I've had a small setback since then and have gained 7 pounds during the past five months. I think this was mostly due to overvolunteering in other areas and not making time to do the things I need to do to take care of myself. For example, every day I would decide I had to do something for Habitat for Humanity (I'm the treasurer of our local affiliate) rather than exercise. Or cook healthy meals. Or track my nutrition and fitness.

So while I'm still down 10 pounds from where I started, I don't like the way my clothes fit, and that I can't wear several things I could just a few months ago. I'm getting back on track by first making exercise a priority. Five days a week for at least 45 minutes of cardio, and three days of strength training. I'm also tracking my food, but not being too concerned about going over my calories yet. After I get the exercise firmly back in my schedule, I'll add staying within my calorie range.

I'm confident that I'll be seeing lower numbers on the scale in a week or two, and I'm not in a rush. This is a lifestyle issue - not a diet one. And I'm happy to be a Slowest Loser.

My Goals:
My goal is to make this a lifestyle change. I believe I'm mostly there, despite gaining a few pounds lately. Thanks to Sparkpeole I have a pretty good handle on how much and what kinds of food I should eat, and know lots of great ways to prepare them. I also got over the exercise hurdle not long after joining. By exercise hurdle, I mean that I now look forward to seeing how much I can do, and kind of like that tired, sweaty and accomplished feeling I get when I'm done. I DO NOT want to revisit the days of getting out of breath halfway up the stairs.


My Program:
Cardio five days a week for at least 45 minutes and strength training three days a week. It may take me two years, but I'll do those 100 pushups eventually.



Personal Information:
I've lived in Vermont for almost 12 years and love it here. At least I love four of our five seasons - spring, summer, winter and fall are great. Mud season not so much.

My hobbies are piano and viola and I also like to bellydance. (I also enjoy cooking and am a lot more health conscious about what I prepare than I used to be.)


Other Information:
I enjoy volunteer activities - I must because I seem to do it all the time. I'm on the selectboard of my town and the treasurer of our local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity here in Addison County. You can probably tell from the pictures that I like dogs - mine in particular. I keep my two dogs (Coco and Pepper) at a healthy weight - so I should be able to do that for me!

    So glad to hear from you. I am afraid I have been straying away from what I need to do. So much has happened. I quit my job of 10 yrs. and am going thru an emotional crisis. I went off my medication because I no longer have health insurance. After being institutionalised before because of the same mistake, I asked my dr. to prescribe a lesser medication that can also be gotten generic form. I am feeling a lot better but I am up to 260 pounds. Hopefully things will get back to normal now. Sorry for the gap in communication. I will try to do better. emoticon
