New Year, New Me

2013 is finally over! It was one of the most stressful, challenging, frustrating, painful years of my life. I need a t-shirt that says I Survived 2013.

2014 is going to be much better. Here's what I see for myself this year: 8 hours of sleep a night, lots of fresh, clear water, a little bit of exercise, and fun. Massages, manicures, pedicures, spa visits. Soft classical music. Maybe I'll take a class or pick up a new hobby. Vacations. Chatting with girlfriends. Getting ...

You know how the Chinese have the year of the dog and the year of the rat? This is the Year of Being Pampered.

One of my favorite quotes:

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.

Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn't matter if you're a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.

Hey Girlie,

You getting any of that snow coming this way tonight?? It was nice while it lasted, wasn't it? Good thing I don't put my snow shovel away till June. Someone said the Farmer's Almanac predicted a snow storm on Easter. I guess they weren't too far off. Maybe you'll get to rev up that machine one more time before you put it up on blocks. Take care!!

Joan...getting out my mittens and boots as we speak....

Hi Christi,
Thanks for the birthday goodie! It was nice to celebrate my birthday with my family here.
We had a lot of fun that day, going walking and playing Frisbee in the park
and having two great meals together. We had teriyaki for lunch and made homemade pizzas for dinner. A great day overall.

Thank you for your concerns and prayers for those who lost their homes and lives in Oso. The slide was up about 60 miles northeast of us near the mountains, so we were not affected by it ourselves. It has been and still is all over the news around here. Cannot see a newscast without an update.

Please continue to pray for the people there and in the towns of Darrington and Arlington. They have also lost so much and are affected by the slide
due to economic and transportation issues. Many people and churches are pitching in to help out with funds and supplies.
There are other towns in the area that are in danger of large slides as well and people are concerned for their homes and lives. So much rain has fallen over the past couple of months and especially in March. It was the wettest ever on record. Other areas of the western part of the state are in danger as well. We had a very dry December and January followed by record rainfalls in February and March. It is still raining, but not as heavily as previously.
So you guys got the snow and we got the rain. Not sure what will happen when the snow pack starts to melt in the mountains...more floods I suppose. Record rainfalls means record snows in the mountains. When the snow melts the rivers flood.
So we are waiting for a little dryer weather. It is supposed to be sunnier this next week. Hoping to start my garden soon so we can grow vegetables.
Well, this is a long one...hope you got through it... emoticon

Have a wonderful spring!

Love,
Sue

Okay .... before I begin my saga .... go get a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or maybe a Pina Colada and get comfortable .......

Ready?

So .... remember back in February .... Monday the 17th to be exact .... when we got dumped on AGAIN with snow? Well, I spent the day with my daughter and son (colleges were closed that day because of the weather) and we did errands, had lunch, even stopped for ice cream (all diet friendly of course - lol) and then finally got home around 4 or so. My son took my jeep and headed over to a friend's house and my daughter started shoveling the snow.

I decided that I should probably clear off the inside steps, where all the grocery bags and backpacks had been left. (Even college kids 'drop' their stuff wherever!). Anyway ..... I had some mail in my hand and proceeded to step backwards and missed a step. Honestly - it felt like someone grabbed my shoulders and pulled me. I hit my head on the frame of the couch, the front of the couch (which is wooden) and then the floor. I remember saying "Oh No!" as I was falling. I laid there for just a moment and then sat up. I fell on my left side, but my right wrist was killing me.

My daughter came in, found me sitting there and ran and got me an ice pack. I made a comment that my head hurt. She moved my hair and I thought she was going to pass out. I had an egg on my eyebrow and a second one on my head. She went and got a second ice pack. My husband walked in about 10 minutes later and by that time the black eye started. After driving over two hours to get home, he immediately set his briefcase down, helped me on with my coat and he took me to urgent care.

Here's where things start getting interesting. They did an x-ray on my wrist and said it was sprained - and weren't concerned about my head since I never blacked out and answered all of the questions the doctor asked me. He told me to wear a brace and ice it.

I went to my primary the next day - and he said that there wasn't much you can do with a sprain - but if the pain didn't let up - to call him and he'd send me for an MRI. I'm no wimp - I've had both of my knees replaced so I know what pain is - lol. This was relentless - and mind you, I went to work the day after it happened - typing with just my left hand! About 4 days later, my neck started to hurt so I went to the chiropractor and he told me I gave myself a mild whiplash. Could anything more happen? Yup .... it could.

After a month of not much improvement, I went for the MRI. And that's when I found out that I not only fractured my wrist, but the bones by my ring and pinky finger!!! Seriously!!! Turns out they read the x-ray wrong. Went and saw the ortho surgeon and he said that there wasn't much to do now - I pretty much lived through the timing of a cast so I'm still in the brace at night, the chiropractor is using ultrasound to aid in healing, and I go back to see the ortho in a few weeks to see how I'm doing.

Unfortunately, I'm still in a fair amount of pain, have no strength, and by the end of day working - my wrist is raw.

So you know me right? Bless in the Mess ...... Here it is - hubby and children have totally stepped up their games and have been wonderful workers bees, helping with the cleaning, laundry, and even making dinner!!!!

So that my friend ..... is my story. Now for the moral of the story ...... stay upright!!!

Hugs,
Maryann

An Irish Prayer

May God give you ...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing to each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
