Hi Sandy B, the first step to conquering depression is to recognise that you suffer from it so you are already ahead of the game. Keep it up, it is tough, at least for me most of the time keeping fit and losing weight does not come naturally but I have persevered over the past nine months and lost 20 lbs between May and December (I did gain back 4 lbs over the past month, mainly because my dog is sick and I havent had to desire or energy to push myself as I have been getting up several times overnight with him and am feeling a bit drained). However, with the help of Sparkpeople I will recover my will to do it. I did it once I can do it again right! Keep at it. It is hard. I live in the country and spend a lot of time on my business. That doesnt leave much time for finding walking buddies. If you can find one, or maybe a group, it helps with the motivation I think.

Welcome! How about a walking challenge? Figure out how many miles your walk is, or using a measuring device like spark activity tracker, fitbit or pedometer, to determine a daily steps goal which you will increase over time, then post about your progress either on your blog or in a team forum?

I just joined SparkPeople's 2 Fit 2 Quit challenge which is to do at least ten minutes of fitness every day in February. This keeps me motivated because I check in every day and will not want to skip a day. Most days I do 30-60 minutes but on those "I don't feel like it days" I will commit to ten. Once I get started, that ten always turns into more automatically.
