A Mid-Life Change
At the beginning of the other half of my life, I am making an effort that this body will be fit enough to carry me a long way - I intend to be skiing into my 90's

My Goals:
Although I was introduced to SparkPeople in 2010, and lost some weight, I didn't really begin to take my health seriously until Jan 2011. I don't know what was different. Maybe my 5-year anniversary of being Smoke-Free, and I wanted to get rid of the "evidence" - the thirty pounds I had gained on top of the fifteen pounds I already needed to lose. And, paying attention to such media figures as Dr. Oz, and Ellie Krieger, I knew I was a prime candidate for developing diabetes and/or heart problems. I am a registered nurse - I know better!!
My Program:
I am currently keeping my calories down to about 1200/day (I figured out I need 1700 calories/day to maintain my weight; I wanted to lose 1 lb/week through diet, so I trimmed off 500 cal/day = 3500 cal/week = 1 lb of fat). I keep a somewhat balanced diet, but I try to limit carbs and fat, while making sure I get enough protein. I aim for 100 gm protein daily. I run 3 times a week, and play wii games (boxing, tennis, and Jillian Michaels) in between. I take one day off, Sunday, from physical exercise.
Personal Information:
I am from the beautiful farmland of Chester Co, Pa, south of Coatesville. I am lucky enough to be able to go outside to run on most running days. I am married to a wonderful man, and have 4 grown children and 2 lovely grandchildren. I am so happy that my health will enable me to enjoy my family for many years to come. I am also a full-time student, working on my Master's degree. I work on weekends, to support my habits: spoiling grandchildren, attending college, gardening, and skiing!
