6 years ago I wrote .... "20 years ago (and 50 pounds ago) I used to be able to run a sub 3:30 marathon. My daily runs were an addiction I could not do without. Now running is a chore. It has been a steady slide downhill for the last 15 years. As I approach 60, unless I change my ways, it will continue to get worse" ... Since then, with the ups and downs of life, I have packed on another 10 pounds and watched my fitness level gradually decrease. Now, retired I need to develop a new attack on fitness and general health. I have to be able to enjoy those two beautiful grandkids!!

Since my hip replacement in April '15, I have not been able to run (other than around a Cross Country course on race day). My surgeon said running was out. I'm not so sure it has to be that way. Dropping weight will help me decide. We are hiking Machu Picchu in July. My target weight is 200 pounds (dropping 39 pounds between now and then).

Ideally, I'd like to be able to run 3 or 4 miles 3 times a week. This seems reasonable to me.
