I am in my sixth year of living a healthy life style!! I celebrated my fifth year anniversary with SparkPeople February 12, 2016. I reached my goal weight on 2/7/12 - almost a year to the day I joined SparkPeople!! Sometimes my weight goes up a little bit, but I manage to drop it back down and maintain with different challenges on the SparkPeople web site, the support of my SparkBuddies as well as future physical goals. I started off with walking. If you would have told me three years ago that I would have run a 5k, I would have never believed it! As of today, I have run 5ks, 10k's, 3 ten milers, and 5 Half Marathons! Funny how fast one's perspective can change...even for us middle-aged people! Even though I have conquered all of the above, I am faced with an even bigger "challenge". I lost my 26 year old son last November to Anorexia Nervosa. I am in the first year of my grieving process and it is very difficult. I need to stay healthy, but, it is not the first thing on my mind. And, since he passed away from counting calories, weighing himself on the scale 3 times per day, and eating halves of everything - it has been a real mental challenge for me. My favorite quotes... All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything!Gary W. Goldstein Goals are dreams with deadlines. ---Diana Scharf Hunt Take care of your body. Its the only place you have to live. - Jim Rohn What you are doing is not nearly as important as how you feel about what you are doing. - Unknown There'll be two dates on your tombstone. And all your friends will read 'em. But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em. - Kevin Welch All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. Walt Disney Accomplishment only takes place when you actively participate with your intentions. Therefore, fully commit to participate in the dreams of your choice and do so against all the risks confronting you.Guru Singh No Matter How You Feel, Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up, and Never Give Up - Unknown

I made a list of things I need to save for and a dog crate is one of them.

The food at the pool party turned out great. My son marinated the chicken and the shrimp. He got the recipes from his Smartphone. We cooked the rice in a rice cooker and didn't have to watch it. Kate and I cut peppers and onions for the kebabs. We put pineapple chunks on the kebabs too.

I ate some of everything. Rice and fruit are not on the list of foods that I can have. I had the blueberry dessert and a root beer float too.

When hubby worked, he was gone between 12 to 16 hours a day. He still runs a lot. I am trying to teach myself to be more independent of him. My Mom was a widow when she was 48.

We both are aging with health problems. Mom was unprepared because my Dad did a lot and she had to learn how to take care of herself after he died. I don't want to be relying on my kids to help me if I can do for myself. I know that time will come if I live long enough.

I am trying to develop a "can do" attitude. I don't attempt big things, I just want to be able to handle my own affairs. I learned long ago, that nobody can eat until the cook says the food is ready and I don't get hyped up about parties.

We had a big ash mess in our house from our son trying to vacuum out a charcoal grill and his fiancee had the door open to the kitchen when a cloud of ash formed and came into the house. Everything was covered with ash dust. Before the party, I tried to hit areas that hadn't been touched and the paper towels I dusted with were black.

If I ever get rich, I will hire a housekeeper, lol!
