In early 2005, after spending most of my 24 years overweight, I decided to finally do something - and I stuck to it. Eight months and nearly 60 lbs later, I was happy, healthy, and in control. Since then, I have completed law school, moved to my third state (so far!), settled down with a partner, and started my career. I have also developed asthma, symptoms of celiac, and sore tendons from running with very flat feet. The hardest thing that I have had to confront is that success does not mean you are done learning and growing - or that age and your body won't continue to change everything you thought you knew. And then there's the fact that "success" itself is a moving target.

I got hooked on long-distance running with Team in Training in 2008 and have completed one full and 6 half marathons. However, my bad health history and my flat feet caught up with me a year and a half ago. I am also adjusting to an intense job and home ownership. My current goals involve finding new (and convenient) cardio activities to love and bringing my work and home life back into balance.

After 3 years I still consider myself a "newbie" in the Twin Cities since so many people stay here their whole lives. I always welcome new health buddies!

Hi! I saw your comment about clenching your jaw and I wondered if you could give me any more info. on how that affected you. I've been having headaches that only happen from pressure--coughing, bending over, etc. The pain is only on one side and radiates from around my eye into my cheek and jaw.

After an MRI and physical therapy, I'm told the pain is from muscle tension in my neck. PT, stretching, exercise and massage haven't helped. My husband tells me I clench my jaw while sleeping and I've noticed I do this a lot. I'm wondering if it could be the cause of my muscle tension. How did you stop doing this? When I'm sleeping I can't tell myself to relax!

Hey, I walked very close to your house two days ago on my delightful autumn evening walk, and passed this CRAAAAAZY Halloween-o-palooza house on the corner of 40th and Pillsbury (I think -- either Pillsbury or Blaisdell). Have you seen it? The one with the lit-up pumpkins across the entire front of the house, and the blinking lights, and the ghost hanging from the tree on the corner, etc etc? WOW! That was lively. emoticon

Anya!!! Are you running the Minneapolis Marathon right now?!?! I can see that you're signed up (I'm sneaky that way)!! Holy cow! You haven't said anything about it lately so I wasn't sure! If you're out there running, I hope you're having a great time - literally and figuratively! WOO HOO! emoticon

Hey, Rasp, thanks for your comments on my blog -- I always appreciate them even if I'm a horribly belated responder. I would love to play with clothes with you someday, or even go to Goodwill and stuff. When I'm done slogging through the terrible muck and mire of my life, we will do it!!! Hope you're having a good night! emoticon

Hey Raspberry! Thanks for the comment on my blog...YES -- I feel incredibly vulnerable, raw and exposed. This whole thing has hurt me in ways I just...could never have imagined. I'm wrestling with just about everything in my life because of it. :( I hope you're doing well, and yeah, just let me know when you have more time to hang out -- no worries, cuz I know you're busy! emoticon
