"Now What?!"

Borrowing from Deep Purple's latest album and title track "Now What?!", I've been asking myself this question (somewhat rhetorically) lately. Why? Well, I've achieved my weight loss goal, I'm in great shape physically -- so, from a SP perspective, "Now What?!".

LOTS still to accomplish:

- Maintain weight
- Improve running times / increase distances
- Improve financial picture (as much as I hate to think about it, retirement is not all that far away!) ...

- Expand wellness to include mind and spirit

So...that's what!

I haven't as yet found any evidence of a reinvention revolution going on as described by the authors of that blog. I'm thinking it was probably all hype. Glenn

Thanks for your comment on my blog. The 5 minute jog to 2 minute walk that I am doing (for now, at least) is not typical at all. The general practice is shorter jog/walk intervals, but I find the more frequent switching tedious. It is not necessarily faster to do longer intervals, but I find it easier to get "in a groove". I was doing a half mile jog and then a short walk (which I wasn't timing), so the 5 and 2 still gets me to about a half mile. It's just a comfortable ratio for me. It's definitely a good plan to try a variety of intervals and ratios to see what works best for you. I may yet change mine again. :-)

The podiatrist sold me Superfeet blue, for $45 with no tax. I ordered 3 more pair online for $34.88 each, no tax and free delivery. While the sound track is that I can switch them from one pair of shoes to another, the plan is to have them for each of 3 pair of running shoes (currently Saucony Kinvara 4's) and the black Asics I wear to work as business casual. I'll live without them for the lineman's boots I use to mow the lawn and the slightly more formal shoes I wear with a suit to church.

My current walking/hanging around shoes are Saucony Mirages; I expect to retire them when I fully break in the Superfeet, and convert the least gaudy (gray/blue) KInvaras into walking/hanging around shoes.

I spoke with my former half marathon coach at Fleet Feet; he guessed that I would be in Orange or Carbon Superfeet. That's why I'm paying the podiatrist. The description for blue is that they're for low arches; the fact that the podiatrist put me in blue, plus other history that didn't seem significant in real time, makes me think I have a low arch issue that is worse with my left foot than my right foot.

It's a learning process. While the podiatrist and the PT recommended different courses of action, I can see how both were working to treat the same problem. That gives me a bit of confidence in the diagnosis; just have to see what works to make it better.
