I was a Systems Architect and Project Manager for IBM, now retired and loving it! My interests include travel, photography, music, hiking, snorkeling, writing, and reading - all of which I share with my husband of 34 years. No children of my own, but I am the proud stepmom of 3, grandma of 4, and great-grandma of 2, soon to be 3 - all the easy way, by marriage.

My husband is 13 years older than I am but is healthy and keeps me going. We try to lead a very active lifestyle and I get tired before he does! Although I can be a wimp at times, he has encouraged me to attempt a number of adventurous things, and I have loved the experiences. My adventures include hot air ballooning, whitewater rafting, hiking on glaciers after being dropped off by a helicopter, snorkeling, swimming with sea turtles and stingrays, parasailing at 1200', ziplining at 200' above a mountain gorge, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and most recently going on 2 African safaris. I love seeing the animals in their natural environment, up close and personal!

I have fibromyalgia and am determined to live my life without that diagnosis getting in my way. I talked to a social worker for a while after being diagnosed, and she said something very important, that it is crucial that I define fibromyalgia and its place in my life, and not let fibromyalgia define who I am. Although I have my bad days, I am conscientious about being and staying active and getting enough sleep. Those two things are my control factors; unfortunately I have to take medication to get the kind of sleep I need. But it is now 10+ years and counting of successfully doing that. On my good days I can walk/hike 3-6 miles. bike 8-10 miles, or do a strenuous workout at my gym. I feel empowered by "surviving" the fibro-beast, I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman!!!

And it's a good thing, too, since 2010 was spent undergoing treatment for early stage breast cancer - multiple surgeries, radiation, and reconstructive surgery. I think the fibromyalgia experience helped me get through the cancer, and hopefully now that is all behind me. 5 clean mammograms so far, and I reach the 5-year survival point in a couple more months!

I've adapted the Pulled Pork recipe to make Pulled Jack Fruit (its a large fruit that when shredded looks like pulled meats) and put together the huevos rancheros recipe with the breakfast dish with potatoes/peppers (forgot the name) to copy a breakfast we had when we came to Texas.

I'm liking the Tex-Mex stuff on there, and plan to try another couple of the stews and things.
