Tame the Beast!

I'm on a quest to be the healthiest me that I can be. I'd love to defy genetics and be in control of my body rather than feel that it's the other way around. I love this site! It's so incredibly resourceful (thanks Sis). It feels so supportive to be a part of a community of individuals who have similar motivations, directions, and goals.

My Goals:
Hello! My name is Patt. My weight has fluctuated on average 30 to 40 lbs of gain and loss most of my adult life (chronic yo-yo weight gainer, that's me). I joined Sparkpeople in May of 2008, after losing 10 lbs. and wanting to maintain the momentum. I weighed 162 lbs and after joining lost 20 more. But, my goal is so much bigger than weight loss. It's lifestyle change and control! I NEED to stop the weight gain/loss cycle and live the remainder of my life as healthy as I possibly can. There is no reason for me not to be able to do this. I have a huge motivating factor (see below).

My Program:
Cardio: 5-6 times a week, mostly incline and low intensity HIIT on treadmill.

Resistance Training:
Arms & Legs 3 days
Back, Chest, Butt 3 days
Abs 6 days

Phood: 5-6 small meals a day - oatmeal, brown rice, black & pinto beans, egg whites, chicken breast, tuna, grass fed bison, apple, grapefruit, spinach, broccoli, mixed veggies, raw almonds, avocado, protein powder. One free day a week.

Personal Information:
I live in Seattle. I have two beautiful sons ages 21 and 9. Yes, twelve years apart! They are an enormous part of my motivation to try and be the healthiest that I can be. My oldest son suffers from renal failure and is currently on dialysis and in need of a transplant. My greatest hope is to be able to donate one of my kidneys for him. My goal is to prime my body to be the healthiest it can be so that if I have the opportunity to give my beautiful boy a chance at a normal life, I will be as prepared as I can be. I posted his picture here on my sparkpage as a reminder to keep my eye on the prize.

Other Information:
One of my very good friends once shared with me something that I hold onto and look to for strength. He believes that God gave us our minds so that we may freely make our own decisions but that our bodies are a loan. We have the power to decide how well to care for our bodies and in what condition we will return them ...I kind of like that sentiment :-)
