Getting There - One Step At A Time...

This is my second try at Spark People. I quit a while back because I was no longer doing anything but going through the motions. During 2013 I lost the 5 pounds I gained in 2012, but still have a long way to go. I don't know if I will reach my goal in 2014, but I will consider the year a success if I end it at a lower weight. I didn't gain it overnight, and I don't plan to lose it overnight either.

My Goals:
My 2014 Goal is to lose 30 pounds.

My longer term goal is to lose 60 pounds.

I want to continue my exercise habits to improve my fitness level and stave off the heart disease and diabetes that run in my family.

My Program:
Tracking my food is the most important tool! Working out 3 times a week at the gym with 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training. Walking at least 2 days a week for 30 or more minutes. My diet is not a formal diet plan. It is to eat healthy and stay within my calorie range for the week.

Personal Information:
Originally from Parma, Ohio, have lived in New Jersey, and now in the Orlando Florida area. Married, no kids. I'm 61, and hoping that this year will see me slimmer and healthier!

Other Information:
I love to read, travel and go to the theater. I also enjoy walking outside, but try to do it early in the day before it gets too hot!

I could probably go as high as 1400-1500 but that is an average -- in order to be able to have occasional indulgences -- or even just days where I go slightly over -- I will need a larger running deficit. If I eat 1278 a day most days, and maybe 1500 two days and 2000 two days in a given month, I will end up averaging 1340 -- still in weight loss mode but not so austere as 1278. I'm basically building in some room for deviation, which is inevitable.
