You are completely right. There was definitely a time when that kind of weekend did derail me...in a big way too. Once I lost control of my good eating habits it was like my brain just decided there was no point anymore since I had messed up, and I would just go completely off track. I don't know that the whole running/jogging thing is the same for everyone, but for me... I only found it on accident lol. My suggestion would be start off sloowwww. As slow as you possibly can jog. It didn't help me at first, but after a few days of slow jogging consistently, BAM! there it was. I hope you find it, it's an amazing feeling!
