My name is Karen, I'm 66 years old, and I'm DONE being the fat girl! I started my Spark journey in Oct. 2010 at 230 lbs and have lost 80 lbs down to 150. My ultimate goal is 135-140.

Starting Jun 25th, I am participating in the Summer 2016 5% Challenge as a member of the Casual Travelers team! My goal is to lose 7 lbs over the 8 weeks.

Dieting doesn't work, but eating healthy foods and moving a little more does, so that is my plan. I am so thankful for SP and those here who share this journey to health and fitness! Welcome to my page - please leave a note to let me know you were here.

My Goals:
Lose 3 or 4 lbs per month till I reach my ideal weight.

A permanent lifestyle change with more fruits and veggies, more activity, less junk food. Moderation NOT deprivation!


My Program:
1000 to 1300 calories a day, walk outdoors or on the treadmill at least 5 days a week.

I'm a FitBit user. It motivates me to keep moving and reach my step goal of 7,000 steps a day.

Personal Information:
I live in western NY, near Buffalo with my husband, our adult disabled son, and a 2-year-old domestic shorthair housecat named St. Pat. :) I'm blessed with a husband of 47 years who loves me no matter what. Our daughter lives nearby with her husband and 12-year-old daughter.

I am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.


Other Information:
A favorite pastime is crocheting. It's relaxing and helps me to keep my mind off food. Love to do grown-up dot-to-dot books.

I enjoy country music, especially the older music, and also southern gospel music.

I love to read, and am addicted to my Kindle Fire. My reading interests include a variety of fiction genres depending on my mood, non-fiction historical books, and inspirational. I belong to a local book club that meets monthly at our town library.

    emoticon stopping by to remind you that when we commit to losing weight, we need to create small realistic goals that are attainable. Small goals could be anything like getting in your daily serving of fruit and vegetables.

    Remember when it comes to vegetables, we are just talking your typical tomato, carrot and celery to eat or snack on. When it comes to vegetables then are many to chose from like kale, collard greens, mustard greens and other dark leafy greens. The darker green the leaf the more fiber the vegetable has and the better it is for your digestion.

    We also have purple, yellow and orange carrots, purple potatoes, red, green and yellow onions. Then there is whole multitude of other vegetables like summer, butter, winter, pumpkin squashes, radishes can be white or pink, even red. Then look at those beautiful black egg plants they to can come in different colors. The point is don't be afraid to experiment with different types of foods. And let's not forget our fruits, they can be sweet or sour, you can use them for desserts, smoothies, juices, snacks and so much more if you are a creative cook.

    If you don't like water, this too can be another small goal, try making a goal to drink at least 5 glasses of water 5 days a week.

    And most importantly when you reach your small goal, don't forget to reward yourself with a non-food reward for achieving that goal.

    Then it is time to move the goal up a little. Like the water from 5 glasses to 6 per day.

    And also you will want to "Fire up your sneakers to get at least 10+minutes of exercise at least 3-5 times a week." emoticon I know you can...You are ready to take that first step and commit yourself to a "HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE".... "A HEALTHIER NEW YOU"....
