My Journey.........

I believe that if you embark on a weight loss program and you really embrace it then it will become a journey that can only benefit your life and everyone in your life. I started my journey 6 years ago and it has helped shape me into the person I am, which I love....but I believe that I can be even better and that is my goal!

I started my weight loss journey many years ago but until my hypothyroidism was diagnosed just before I turned 40 I was a complete failure. After diagnosis I lost 70 lbs over 4 years, a little at a time and maintaining for several months before losing more. I didn't plan it this way, that is just how it worked out. I put about 10 lbs back on by not paying attention and now I am after those 10 and 10 to15 more. If I can do it, I know that anyone can.

2010 is the year I make my health my priority. No excuses to reach all the goals I have set.

2011 is the year that I discover what works best for my changing body due to this new stage of life. Bring it on Peri Menopause!

My Goals:
So much closer to 50 than 40. I was healthier at 40 than I was at 30 so hoping I can say the same for the 50's versus the 40's

My Program:
Drink 10 glasses of water everyday.

Track all my food daily and stay within calorie range.

Cardio at least 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day.

Encourage other sparkers which will also benefit and bless me!

Personal Information:
I live in Riverside County, CA and even though I don't like the traffic, smog and all the other stuff that goes with city life, I love the weather and the sunshine, just not every day! I am an outdoors girl that would wither up without a regular dose of sunshine but am finding out I truly appreciate rain.

Other Information:
I am married and in my late 40's. Both of my beautiful children are grown and gone. I have 6 grandchildren that I adore. I have been discovering who I am, other than a wife and mom over the past 8 years. I have rediscovered my love of the outdoors and to be active.

Well I can honestly say that by being kinder to myself I seem to be making headway - who would have thought! I actually love the yoga now, just need to get up early enough to do it. I've decided two days a week for Jillian and two days for yoga and walking when I can at lunchtimes is my plan. I also have a dvd of Jillians 'Shred it with weights' which I've done with hand weights and quite liked, but you can use a kettleball - so I'm going to buy one and give it a go. I also cut out wheat, rye, barley and oats at my docs suggestion and I am actually losing weight. Of course portion control is key. I've seen those Leslie Sansome walking videos - are they any good? Does she do any light jogging in any of them? Have a great vacation and enjoy yourself. emoticon

Hi friend, you still there? Haven't had a reply from you in a while. I finally saw the scale move down again this week - Yeehaa! Have you added more to the 2lbs you lost before?? Let me know how you're doing emoticon

Hi Jackie, I'm back from the dead! (well almost, back from the virus at least). Got up early this morning and did my first beginner Hatha Yoga DVD - very calming and challenging as far as flexibility - I really didn't know just how tight my hip flexors were until I tried some of the poses - WOW! That is definitely an area I need to work on. It's not strenuous in a cardio type of way, but holding the poses is definitely challenging and my legs were twitching on the last couple of stretches! Meaning my muscles were tired - so must be doing something! Probably will do it once a week and get back to level 2 of 30DS and those darn planks on other days. How you going with Level 3 - is it getting any easier? emoticon

I'm afraid I have been struck down by some awful virus the past week and a half (had one week off work) and am still not well enough to exercise. So no, unfortunately haven't lost any weight. But very glad to hear of your good news with said lost lbs, congratulations!! Keep up the good work and you will get stronger with level 3 soon, I'm sure. I will attempt level 2 again once I am well enough, just hope my arms are up for all those planks and they don't wobble and have me fall on my face! LOL! emoticon

I'm sitting here laughing after reading about your yoga meltdown with Jillian's dvd! At least you tried it, I saw some reviews for it where someone said you should probably do some beginner yoga before attempting Jillian's because she is on a whole level by herself - that was enough to make a chicken out of me!!! I'm not too bad when it comes to flexibility, but have noticed as I get older I have to work at it to maintain it, so was hoping yoga will do that for me. Thanks for the offer of the dvd, but I doubt it would work on my dvd player as we are a different region to the US. Good for you getting to day 9. I've only done level 2 once so far - loooong way to go with those tortuous planks. Today I just did some weight work with plyometric moves - that was enough for me, I was a sweaty mess after only 20 minutes! I have to admit though I actually enjoyed doing them at my own pace, lately I'm finding some of Jillian's moves too fast for me and I'm sacrificing form to keep up. It will take time to get fit and strong again, I'm so angry with myself for falling all the way back to where I am emoticon I was thinking today what a pair we make, you with your sore shoulder and me with my sore neck! LOL! It is worth it though, the alternative is just not attractive!! Keep up the good work and will catch up with you again soon. emoticon
