Running motivation...I want to run into him.
Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
I believe that if you embark on a weight loss program and you really embrace it then it will become a journey that can only benefit your life and everyone in your life. I started my journey 6 years ago and it has helped shape me into the person I am, which I love....but I believe that I can be even better and that is my goal!
I started my weight loss journey many years ago but until my hypothyroidism was diagnosed just before I turned 40 I was a complete failure. After diagnosis I lost 70 lbs over 4 years, a little at a time and maintaining for several months before losing more. I didn't plan it this way, that is just how it worked out. I put about 10 lbs back on by not paying attention and now I am after those 10 and 10 to15 more. If I can do it, I know that anyone can.
2010 is the year I make my health my priority. No excuses to reach all the goals I have set.
2011 is the year that I discover what works best for my changing body due to this new stage of life. Bring it on Peri Menopause!
So much closer to 50 than 40. I was healthier at 40 than I was at 30 so hoping I can say the same for the 50's versus the 40's
Drink 10 glasses of water everyday.
Track all my food daily and stay within calorie range.
Cardio at least 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day.
Encourage other sparkers which will also benefit and bless me!
I live in Riverside County, CA and even though I don't like the traffic, smog and all the other stuff that goes with city life, I love the weather and the sunshine, just not every day! I am an outdoors girl that would wither up without a regular dose of sunshine but am finding out I truly appreciate rain.
I am married and in my late 40's. Both of my beautiful children are grown and gone. I have 6 grandchildren that I adore. I have been discovering who I am, other than a wife and mom over the past 8 years. I have rediscovered my love of the outdoors and to be active.

I just saw your comment on my insulin resistance blog and am responding now.
I am curious if you ever ordered a HBa1c test and if so what the results are?
I have found I have to also avoid any sort of starches which is basically all grains. I still eat a gluten free pizza on occasion but pay for it.. I try to get a 30 minute walk in afterwards. I'm also not very good with milk, which I used to love, half milk half tea, and drink every day a couple of times a day. No sweets either, fruit sparingly, mostly berries, in order to keep my glucose results low.
With everything I've managed to get my Hba1c down to 5.4, but I am finding my fasting glucose is still pretty high... now its in the 110 range. UGH. I started taking milk thistle for this (apparently its the confused liver that puts out too much glucogen, which raises blood sugar when we are fasting), but the jury is still out if its going to work or not... its only been about a week.
As for the eyes, I take a bit of taurine (an amino acid that's important to the retina), eat blueberries ( I put them in my tea with chia seeds instead of milk) and spinach every day. About every 3rd day or on days I don't get spinach, I take lutien, zeaxanthin and astaxanthin. I also wear a broad brim hat, and sunglasses when I leave the house.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
All these diabetes symptoms aren't supposed to happen at our prediabetic glucose levels, but apparently our bodies aren't reading those rules! ha
PS, also very important to drink your 8 glasses of pure water everyday, as this helps the kidneys filter sugar from your blood.

Yeah I know what you mean, you hit fifty and suddenly you turn into a pumpkin! I'm really noticing how much harder it is to get the weight down. Though mind you, the extra weight training I'm doing is having an effect - my weight on the scale has moved down a bit, not as much as I'd like but my clothes are definitely looser and I'm almost down a dress size! I've bought a DVD by Jackie Warner - Personal Training With Jackie - 30 Day Fast Start. She does what she calls 'pyramid training' two moves in a set and you start with doing one of each move then do two, then three.. up to ten - which works out to be 55 reps of each move. I find I'm enjoying this more than Jillian - I'm Jillian'd out at the moment and was losing motivation to do her DVDs. Plus I'm still doing my Kettlebell DVD - love this one, have to be brave though and try level 2!!! Keep going Jackie, but try to find something you really enjoy for exercise - it will keep you motivated.

Good to hear you are knuckling down. My scale on the other hand has stopped moving but my clothes are more loose and the belly is definitely flatter - go figure! Must be all the muscle I'm putting on. I read an article yesterday that said even if you achieve 80% of your fitness and eating goals on average you are doing well. Some days will be 100% others 80% or even 50% as long as you average around 80% you are going to see change - so I guess they're saying you don't have to be perfect all the time as long as you are doing most things right most of the time - takes a bit of pressure off. Didn't exercise this morning cause I was up late last night watching the Asian Cup Soccer - Australia vs China - was a great game and we won, but boy I'm paying for it this morning! Very inspiring watching such fit athletes, not to mention very easy on the eyes! LOL!
