A Line in the Sand

6/2/14 is my "line in the sand day". It's been several months of caring for others and now I'm focusing on me. See my 6/1/14 blog for the full story.

These five words are my goals for each day:

Exercise -- Home -- Family -- Business -- Fun

3.18.13 - Started daily Nutrition Tracking. Conquered the anxiety!
4.01.13 - Monthly weigh-in, down 8.4 lb. total.
4.18.13 - Monthly measurement: lost 5.35", total 7.85"
4.20.13 - Completed 5% Challenge!! Lost 6.4% of my body weight!!
5.01.13 - Monthly Weigh-In, down 17 lb. total
5.24.13 - Monthly measurement: lost 4.5", total 12.35"
7.06.13 - Completed 5% Challenge. Lost over 4% of my body weight.

11.28.13 - Ran every step of my first 5K EVER!!!
02.09.14 - Dad fell ill
02.16.14 - badly sprained my ankle...no running. :(
04.01.14 - restarted walk/running...anxiety high
04.12.14 - Ran Bunny Hop 5K with ankle brace
05.11.14 - Ran/walked Mother's Day 5K...very nauseated but finished.
05.23.14 - Finished Spring 5%, weight up and fed-up

06.21.14 - Started Summer 5% Challenge @ 186.6

ABOUT ME

I am a mom to 5, wife of 25 years, and serve in ministry with my husband in the Christian & Missionary Alliance. I work part-time as my husband's office staff. I also have a small craft-based business as a soap maker. We live in south-eastern Ohio. Our 5 children, 4 pets, jobs, and life keep us very busy!

You've found me here on SparkPeople because I am on a personal journey to overcome anxiety, SAD, and my poor health habits. I've overcome a lot: my husband's battle with addiction, our damaged marriage, special needs children, the pressures of ministry life... On the whole, I'm pretty good at overcoming. But it's time to take care of me and overcome the damage I've accumulated over the years.

My efforts to lose weight in the past did not end well, mainly because I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Rather than giving myself credit for the progress I was making, calorie counts and weekly weigh-ins became my fixation. This led to an emotional rollercoaster, stress eating, binge eating, then finally defeat.

This time I'm going to be honest and loving towards myself. I have to stay away from the nutrition tracker (update 4/1/13 - I conquered it!!) and scale (update 7/15/13 - conquered it!!)...for the most part. I will focus on other indicators of progress such as fitness streaks, inches lost, lifestyle changes, and my mental health.

I'm going to add one new behavior at a time. When I've conquered that goal, I will add another. I pray that I will get to a place where the scale and calorie counts are helpful tools and not my enemy. But I may not, and that will be okay.
