I'm a foodie, and I love to cook. I love classic, comforting foods of the kind that gramma made: stroganoff, paprikash, pot pie. I fully believe that a healthy life can support dishes like that, with real butter, real sour cream, real FOOD - they just have to be eaten in appropriate portions and supplemented with lots of plant foods.

Four years ago I lost 80 pounds living with the simple rules of: #1 eating real food; and #2 never putting anything into my mouth unless it was delicious. Alas, I fell off that very sensible wagon and regained all of it and 10 more. Only when I was staring at 300 pounds and my health was starting to be impacted did I get a grasp on myself and start back on this path.
My goal is to lose a total of 120 pounds over the course of 2 years. I don't want to lose fast, because weight lost fast is weight that comes right back. I'm focusing on exercise and eating quality food in moderation.
Michael Pollan is one of my food heroes, and the other is Julia Child, who brought us the esthetic of beautiful food, beautifully cooked, and enjoyed in moderation.
I'm also a bread baker and write a food blog at livinggraciously.wordpress.com/ . I look forward to talking about the challenges of eating sensibly with all of you!
My Goals:
My current goal is to train for and participate in at least two triathlons in the summer of 2013. I have good confidence in my biking ability, but for right now can jog about 40 feet! So there will be lots of "shoes on the ground" training this fall and winter, as well as pool time!
My Program:
My priority is health, and getting in shape. I want to enjoy life as I enter my later years, and good health is key to that.
My focus is on physical activity, and getting moving. I'm not going to diet; dieting is a failure waiting to happen. Instead, I am practicing aware eating, emphasizing good food choices, and NEVER putting anything in my mouth unless it's delicious!
Other Information:
I am an avid reader and also love to cook. I make quilts and do some beadwork. Autumn is my favorite season, and purple is my favorite color.
thank you for your wise words on my blog about mania and frustration and meds. You are right, time gives perspective. the thing with mania is, I know that it will pass, that's why it called episodes. I just tend to forget it in the midst.
So glad I could help! I sometimes start a blog and don't know where I'll end up - that happened yesterday. Thanks for your comments - and I'm sending you some sunshine your way!
My husband helps a lot around the house even with housework, except when I am sick. I have never understood why that is.
I do think men will help when asked to do so. It could very well be his sore feet. He is having surgery May 23rd for torn ligaments or tendons below the ankle.
