Time for a healthier me!

Why is this the last time? Because I can't do this anymore. I'm no longer young enough to eat/drink what I want and dance it off over the weekend. The thyroid no longer works. I'm no longer a parent of young children, chasing them around the house. I'm no longer a parent of teenagers - moving constantly from one activity to another. Health issues that I could live with in my 20's, 30's, even 40's have now become prominent. My joints are twisting with the RA. The ET's make lifting even paperback ...
Why is this the last time? Because I can't do this anymore. I'm no longer young enough to eat/drink what I want and dance it off over the weekend. The thyroid no longer works. I'm no longer a parent of young children, chasing them around the house. I'm no longer a parent of teenagers - moving constantly from one activity to another. Health issues that I could live with in my 20's, 30's, even 40's have now become prominent. My joints are twisting with the RA. The ET's make lifting even paperback books sometimes too much of a strain. Unemployment has not only made me sedentary and depressed but due to loss of health insurance and medications, weight has quickly packed on. Every time I go off my thyroid meds, I put on 10 pounds overnight. Fifty pounds ago I was content. 100 pounds ago I was pregnant with my second child - 27 years ago.
Enough. I'm am so over this. I've been working for the last few years on making better choices (unemployment helps there because fast food lunches and soda were the first to go!). Now it's time to incorporate the whole picture - lose the weight to lessen the health risks, begin an exercise routine (I can't say "return" because it's been too long) before I can no longer move at all, and adjust my attitude to a more realistic view of just how much longer I can ignore my health/body/mind and what quality of life I can expect if I don't.

My Goals:
My goal is to be healthier and have more energy before it's too late! I want to enjoy myself with my kids and grandkids and not have to worry about being "too tired"!

My Program:
I am following the nutrition guidelines and trying to incorporate exercise into my daily life.

Am taking Tai Chi classes (for low impact exercise) with my father (for his balance issues)!

Volunteer is the operative word here. I get to add this to my existing job, not change my job completely. However, it will lessen the boredom of just sitting in front of a computer all day answering phones.

Salutations! I am so excited for you to have a hand at making your own yogurt!
I don't have a 'recipe' for it..I just perused the net.I really like "a year of slow cooking" website..she got dorky excited like me and then posted it!
when you put in "how to make your own yogurt in a crockpot" on a google search, so many things come up.
here is what I think is important to know: it is ridiculously easy. forgiving. delicious! also,time dependent for you, you have to be around all day-unless you time it to sit overnight(smart to do& I forget almost every time) I find great pleasure in making as much food from scratch as I can(plastic sucks in a landfill!sigh,and makes great containers for your yogurt :)
I use organic reduced fat milk and greek yogurt nonfat plain for my starter-I think that paying the money to get on with several live cultures-probiotics is worth the initial investment(although I've had to do it a couple of times, as I ate all of it on accident)it is Much cheaper to use conventional milk, and greek yogirt is more expensive too...those are personal and financial decisions. Ultimately, it all works Great!
um, and a little messy moving from the colander to lose some extra liquid(whey) but, a good life is messy sometimes, eh?

This is an excited group of folks and really active team so you should be able to find all sorts of inspiration and motivation. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
