New Year = New Goal Speed Walking is a great weight loss tool, and can also assist in keeping your metabolism high. 2008 was spent training myself to run again. ... knees didn't like that 2009 training my back to return to my first love, cycling 2010 was met with another back re-injury at work and has been a serious setback in my fitness and of course my weight, The weight creeped back on until I was no longer able to fit in my 34W jeans, [that was the trigger to take my daily calorie cap seriously and to return to speedwalking, back pain be cursed] I can't run or ride my bike without some sort of pain in my back, but as I refuse to replace my wardrobe again am back on the sidewalk at whatever pace my back will allow, and often use sub-doses of OTC meds to mask or gag my back. While I would love to return to running, if I do I will only enter one or two races a year, but it will not be my primary goal. I enjoy bike riding much more and will be focusing my back rehab on returning to bicycle riding. Adjusted my GOAL weight again, Original was 194 then moved it to 188#, Now pushing for 182# as my Race Weight. However, a work related back injury in early 1993, sidelined me for more than a decade and I gained many pounds during the lack of a sustained fitness routine. MY 2007 WEIGHT LOSS STORY: On Saturday, December 23rd 2006, I had Sears make their second effort to deliver a new Combination Washer/Dryer to my home. The delivery/install team were so skeptical that the unit would fit in the space that they refused to attempt to install it. I told them I had paid for the installation and that they could AT LEAST carry the COMBO WD up to the second floor location and park it in the hall in front of its new home. I went about brainstorming a way to make their short hose reach my tall drain location. In the process, (with my head buried inside the Washer unit) I had gotten into an extremely tight crouched position and when I backed out and stood up, I pinched a nerve. The location of the pain told me it was not directly related to my back injury, {in 1993}, but the product of my borderline obesity. (an indirect result of my back injury) 265 lbs; 17.5" neck, 48" chest, 42.5" waist, 30" thighs. I was in pain for the remainder of the holidays and then some. Later, that week while visiting with my mom during the holidays, she mentioned that a friend of hers had some success with NutriSystem and that I should look into it. So I did, was pleased with the reviews I saw and registered with the NutriSystem website on 5 January 2007. At that that time I had lost one lb and was down to 264#. I decided then, I would use my tax refund to subsidize my grocery budget to pay for the NutriSystem and committed myself to at least 4 months. I was going to be out of town for half of January, so I didn't order until I returned on 21 January. The food arrived on 25 January and I spent the next ten days eating/cleaning out my cupboards to make room for the NS food. I also set the date of 5FEB (day after SuperBowl) as my start date for the NS food. On the 2nd of Feb I weighed in at 262#, having lost two more lbs on my own during the month of January. I made my last NS order on 15MAY and had already begun a Part time regimine of eating NS food only on weekdays and training myself to follow the NS meal plan on weekends with my own food. I continued this practice and (including a couple of week long vacations on my own food) was able to "stretch" the last order of NS food into the second week of July. So the timeline goes like this: 2006DEC23 - 265# = WAKE UP EVENT OF PINCHED NERVE DUE TO BORDERLINE OBESITY 2007JAN05 - 264# - REGISTER WITH NUTRISYSTEM WEBSITE 2007FEB05 - 262# - START NS MEALS FULL TIME 2007MAY05 - 235# - STARTED DOING NS ONLY ON WEEKDAYS In June I adjusted my initial goal weight of 194 down to 188, to give myself some room to gain muscle weight after reaching goal 2007JUL07 - 216# - FINISHED* LAST FULL WEEK OF NS FOOD (*continued to follow guidelines with my own food preparation) 2007NOV17 - 188# - ARRIVED at "adjusted" GOAL WEIGHT 2008JAN05 - 194# - 1 yr anniversary with NUTRISYSTEM website 2008FEB02 - 193# - 1 yr anniversary from starting NUTRISYSTEM meal plan 2008JUL07 - 192# - 1 yr anniversary from *leaving NUTRISYSTEM meal plan (*continued to follow guidelines with my own food preparation) 2008NOV15 - 193# - 1 yr anniversary after reaching adjusted goal 2008 FITNESS GOAL My desire now that I achieved my 1991 weight of 188 will be to spend this Winter focusing my energy on rehabilitation efforts, this time with more wisdom, (slow and steady), so that I may return to bicycling, (my first athletic love) and running short distances (~5K). HISTORY: While I was in college (my 2nd time) in the late 1980's, I was participating in the ARMY ROTC Program and in my second year was chosen by the commandant to be the Fitness Officer for the entire Battalion because over the Summer Break, I was the only Cadet to improve my APFT score. Later that school year I maxxed the APFT with a score of 300/300, by doing 82 situps in 2 min, 78 pushups in 2 min and 2 mile run in 11:17. I was also capable of maintaining a 20+mph pace on my bicycle for several hours. However, my work related back (slipped disc) injury in 1993 put a stop to all that athleticism and many follow on attempts to rehabilitate my back on my own, just led to re-injury and more months of inactivity leading to weight gain and general muscle "atrophy".

Used Nutrisystem foods and meal plan in 22 weeks of 2007 between mid-Winter and early-Summer to lose 46 pounds and then reached goal weight by losing 28 more lbs in following 19 weeks using my vigorous power walking regimine and education gained from NS meal plan to prepare balanced meals on my own.
