My Journey...and it continues...

I have always struggled with weight. Still struggling! But I haven't given up. Progress?!

Whenever I would "get thin" I would eventually "slack off" and go back to my old habits and gain the weight back. And it crept higher. 2 kids, a family, a career, a home to manage. I didn't get around to maintaining me.

When my husband passed away leaving me with 2 young children to raise on my own, I at first lost weight without thinking about it since I just couldn't ...

Whenever I would "get thin" I would eventually "slack off" and go back to my old habits and gain the weight back. And it crept higher. 2 kids, a family, a career, a home to manage. I didn't get around to maintaining me.

When my husband passed away leaving me with 2 young children to raise on my own, I at first lost weight without thinking about it since I just couldn't eat. Then the creep up started again. At the same time, a grief counselor had convinced me of the benefits of exercise for improving my outlook on life. I was walker and swimmer and chose to try to turn myself into a runner. And discovered I love to run - it helps me cope. Without paying too much attention to food, brought myself from walking 20 minute miles to running 15 minute miles in 6 months and dropped 10 pounds. So I decided to see what I could do next. I joined Sparkpeople and worked on nutirtion and food and in the next 6 months I dropped 30 more pounds and was running an 11-12 minute mile. And I went from being able to do 0 military push-ups to getting up to 30.

Since then I have dropped my running pace to around 9 minute miles and I do more and more excercises. II am addicted and hope to keep this up forever - it makes me feel so much better. For the first time I have focused mostly on how I feel instead of a the number on a scale.

Of course, I have been at a plateau w/in the same 4 or 5 pounds for more than 9 months now. And I would like to drop 20 more pounds. But my body is hanging on to those pounds. I now do running rcaes and am training for 2 sprint triathlons. But at least I seem to know how to maintain.

The best part is the example I set for my children. They try to be helathy too and are feeling and looking fabulous.

...so I guess I fogot how to maintain and have gained a lot back after some major surgery. But I plug along. And have not given up. And the kids still do well. And the fitness I have attained has helped me through my medical struggles and I keep working at it. Somewhat of a victory, i think.

My Goals:
I am trying to live a healthy life and get my weight into a healthy range. I am the widowed mom of 2 girls and I want to see them to adulthood - and beyond! I tell myself it does not matter how long it takes to lose the last pounds that get me to the healthy range since maintaining healthy habits is a lifetime goal. Help me believe that!

My Program:
Lots of exercise - mostly running - my current addiction :) - and eating as healthy as possible withing my target calorie range. I still love chocolate!

Personal Information:
I'm a Jersey Girl. Superstorm Sandy devastated a lot of my favorite places. I am now running as many events to restore the Jersey Shore as I can.

Other Information:
Please don't tell me that one day I'll understand God's plan. Really? I'm a planner. If this was a plan, it was a REALLY bad one!
