Getting Healthy

January 6, 2012: Once again, getting started. Recent blood tests show that I have still managed to dodge the diabetes bullet, though I have been glucose intolerant for over 40 years. I know that it has to do with my efforts to stay active and eat healthfully. I am stepping up the effort in order to work off some of this weight over the next few months. I know that it has to do with my efforts to stay active and eat healthfully. I am stepping up the effort in order to work off some of this weight over the next few months. I hired a personal trainer, and she does a great job of challenging me to work harder and stronger. My local supermarkets have all increased the selections of organic and locally grown foods. I have spent a great deal of time traveling the past couple of years, and plan to spend more time at home this year, so food challenges will be easier to manage. Here's to a great 2012!!!!!

July, 2010: I am a lot of things--an accountant, working retiree, Master Gardener, Toastmaster, reader of mysteries, cat lover and caretaker of 7 cats. world traveler, among other things. I am also developing chronic health issues as a result of weight I can't seem to lose. Being able to track calories and other nutrients and also exercise has really helped me so far!

My Goals:
Lose 70 pounds
Improve fitness level
Clean out closets

FOR 2012:
1. Finish weight loss journey!
2. Increase fitness minutes to 45/day at least 5 days/week
3. Get rid of more clutter in home
4. Become fluent in Spanish
5. Spend at least 2 hours per week working in the yard
6. Call at least one distant family member each week to keep connected.
7. Call at least one friend each week to stay connect.

My Program:
I am keeping calories under 1800 per day, so I will lose about half to a whole pound per week. I am participating in a turbo aerobic water aerobics class 3X a week, and spending about one and half hours a week on a treadmill for interval training. Can't work upper body muscles because of arthritis but can work lower body on machines twice a week.

Personal Information:
I have been living in Aiken South Carolina for the last 20 years. Grew up in Anaheim California, and my heart is still there with my siblings, their kids, and my life long friends.

I do so appreciate your comments on my blog today. But I am so dissappointed to learn that you have not lost any weight because of the allergies.

That is wrong on so many levels. LOL, LOL, LOL. emoticon

And here I was looking forward to being skinny in a short period of time. Well, I guess that is not going to happen. Darn it.

Hey,
Thanks for reading and commenting on my yesterday's blog.

I grew up with allergies and some of them went away as I grew up . At least they went away for a while. Now some are back full force, plus some new ones . I don't like not being normal . . . . whatever that is!
