Heinz and I on our 39th anniversary
Heinz, my hubby checking out the Sacrement Church
Hello, come on in and make yourself at home, have a cup of Joe with me while we get acquainted! Gosh I have been a success and a failure several times in the last 30 years (out of my 65). Starting back in the days with the much touted high protein diet. I drank that vile stuff to see the ketones build up. I was a dabbler in the Zone, the South beach diet, and three times over a lifetime member of WW to name a few. Losing that same 10 then 15 and this time 30 pounds over and over, probably altogether 100 lbs I have lost and gained. From a high fat to low fat diet, from high carb to low carb and then trying low calorie. Is it any wonder we get so confused and just give up sometimes. Of course it all works! Until we get a little stressed out, a little emotional, needing a little comfort, then suddenly we are back where we started, IF not worse off. Back to the same bad habits we started off with. I blamed my age, my hormones (or lack thereof), my stress, I had a lot of excuses why I was this weight.
Then worse off took on a new meaning. I was on the verge of diabetes, a condition I did not want to share with my hubby, high BP (already on meds), and now high cholesterol. I was literally slowly killing myself. I have grandchildren I want to see grow up. In November of 08 I weighed in at 167. Ok not so bad some of you would say to me, but this weight (for me)at my age was doing a lot of damage. I did manage to lose 11 pounds before I learned about SP. I was trying to eat better and I thought I was doing a good job. My doctor had given me 3 months to get my cholesterol under control. But at my next visit I learned I was not doing as good as I thought. My cholesterol level was worse off, and I had to start meds after all. My doctor also told me I had to get my sugar level under control.
In December I read about SP in a magazine and took a look. At first I didn’t realize the depth and wisdom I later found there. I took it one step at a time, slowly learning how to use the site. I didn’t notice a lot of the important and helpful tools all at once. Before I joined I was not too impressed, a lot like WW I thought, but free. Well I liked free, so I came back to learn some more. In January I signed up for the long haul. I liked logging my food, and then I discovered the graphs and charts. What an eye opener it was, to see how I was portioning my food out. At last I learned to track the carbs, cholesterol and then fiber in my diet, and that has become my life saving strategy on SP! I have lost another fourteen pounds and my lab test came this week stating “bloodwork is EXCELLENT”! I also acquired more pep and energy, so I invested in an inexpensive elliptical from Walmart( walking hurt my knees) . I now have a lighter step, I can now go on walks with my grandsons. I can look forward to seeing them become young men!
This is my weight loss story. Coffee is cold, hope you visit again soon and good luck on your own journey.
In case you are still here and want another cup of Joe, I will tell you about myself. I was a magicians assistant in my twenties. I married a performer, and ran away with the circus. I assisted in his act for about 25 years. We retired early due to my hubbys health. We have a wonderful son, daughter in law, and 2 grandsons. After living for 20 years in FL we moved to upper state NY to be with my Son and his family. I take care of the boys during the week while Mom and Dad work. I had a butterfly garden in FL, and I am learning a little about gardening here. I love the seasons and after the rain....comes roses!
To be a healthy 135 lbs.
Tracking my calories, more imprtantly, the ratio of carbs and fiber fat and cholesterol.
Increasing activity by exercising.
