Lynn's Spark Page
Welcome to my Spark Page. Thanks for stopping by. I suppose you are curious about my story so here are the basics. I started this adventure with Spark People on March 29, 2009. At the time I weighed 173 pounds. I know that may not sound awful, but for a 5'4' 46 year old guy, it was rather heavy. I was unquestionably overweight. I was actually right on the threshold of obese. My initial SP plan was to track everything I ate and begin exercising regularly. This generally entailed walking, sometimes outdoors, sometimes on my treadmill. Slowly but steadily the weight came off. About six months into the program, I decided that I wanted to validate my weight loss and celebrate my transformed lifestyle by completing a 5K run. So began what has become my favorite hobby/activity/obsession. I have now completed a dozen races ranging from the 5K distance to the Half Marathon. Even now it is hard to believe I just typed that I have completed a Half Marathon. When I started this adventure at 173 pounds and terribly out-of-shape I honestly don't think I could have finished a 5K. Maybe I could have by walking the whole distance, but it would have been a slow walk. And I would have been exhausted. Now I frequently tell me wife "I'm just going to go for a quick three mile run" as part of training and weight loss routine. I actually feel guilty for being able to fit in "only" three miles. The main thing have learned so far is that this is a never-ending experiment. After about 18 months on SparkPeople I lost 40 pounds and reached my initial goal weight of 133. Today though I weigh 143. Part of that is from relaxing a bit, but part is that I have changed my body. The 143 I am now looks and feels so much better than the 143 I was on the way down. At this weight the BMI charts would say that I am only 2 pounds from being overweight. I don't believe that for a second. I am in great shape and people (even my doctor) still compliment me. In fact people tell me I need to stop losing weight so something must be working! Still, I do want to reclaim some of the progress I have made and get back to maybe 135 - 137 pounds. Thanks for visiting my Spark Page. Let me know if you have any questions at all. If I can help anyone in anyway to become healthier I am glad to do so. A lot of folks on this site have been a huge help and inspiration to me and I would like nothing more than to pay it forward by helping others. Good luck on your own journey. I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have. Lynn LBTHOMASJR
