I've attempted to learn this many times before, and SparkPeople feels like it could be the place where I will get this lesson learned, at last! One key difference is that SP has shifted my focus from weight loss (deprivation) to healthy living (an inviting goal).

My Goals:
I started this journey at 269.2 pounds on November 19, 2009, before I discovered SP. When I first joined SP I was down to 255. I found some real success here for a while, then fell off the wagon, went MIA and regained what I had lost. But I'm back, and committed to stay the course. I want to break through the 200 barrier into the 100's ("Onederland"); then I'll set a new goal, probably around 145.

My Mantra: One small choice at a time.

REMINDERS to myself:
"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!"

If hunger is not the reason, then eating is not the solution.

1 pound body fat = 3500 calories... It ALL adds up (one way or another)!

When motivation is lacking, DO IT ANYWAY and the motivation will find me!

My Program:
~ Monitor daily food intake. Stay in my min/max range (calories, carbs, fat, protein) and pay attention to where the calories are coming from.

~ Include cardio (in small "bites") in my daily routine, using variety to keep it fresh and fun.

~ Do a little cardio EVERY day, EARLY in the day to jump start my metabolism.

~ Strength training 3 days per week.

This is just an interim goal (final goal may be around 145), and Ill determine what feels right as I approach that point. That goal is still far away, but I want to make sure I have a plan in place to ensure that goal sticks once I reach it, so
My Maintenance Plan:
Continue tracking nutrition and fitness daily for the rest of my life. Continue daily cardio plus strength training 3 days per week. Weigh daily, and if my weight drifts up to 3 pounds over my goal weight for a week, then do a Fast Break to bring it back down to stable goal weight again.

Personal Information:
I'm Laura, a 60 year old single mom in Arizona. I have two adult children, and want to make sure I stay around to see their lives come into full blossom. And I want to know their children (my grandchildren) whenever they come along, and to be healthy enough to run around and play with them.

I feel like I've finally discovered the tools and community here to help me make this a permanent lifestyle change. Thank you SparkPeople!
