Healthy Living Hopes

Hi! My name is Larry. I joined SparkPeople in 2008 and was active for a whopping 3 or 4 days. Four years (and a couple scoldings from my doctor later), I am back and ready to commit to changing some old habits for the better. Part of my commitment involves a better focus on work-home balance. Hi! My name is Larry. I joined SparkPeople in 2008 and was active for a whopping 3 or 4 days. Four years (and a couple scoldings from my doctor later), I am back and ready to commit to changing some old habits for the better. Part of my commitment involves a better focus on work-home balance. I'm hoping Sparkpeople will help me with the health aspect of both. I've never been a runner and have a hard time exercising, just to exercise. If there isn't some form of immediate result to the activity, I tend to lose focus. I like to play golf, sand volleyball and bowl because they meet that need for me. Sparkpeople is appealing for a similar reason and I'm hoping the point system will motivate me to reach my goals.

My Goals:
To eat healthier, exercise more, lose weight and meet new people.

My Program:
I have established my daily calorie, fat, protein, and carbohydrate targets. I have read up on healthy eating options and now understand why certain types of foods/ingredients are better or worse for my health. I have committed to significantly reducing fast food, fried food and soda consumption and to making healthy choices when faced with those options. I have added a multivitamin and fish oil to my daily nutrition to help my body get the vitamins/minerals required. I have also added whey protein to my diet with each meal to help my body focus on fat reduction as opposed to muscle reduction. I have also mapped out a couple of walking routes near my home so that I can walk a minimum of 1 mile per day (with the help of my dog Weezer).

Personal Information:
I currently live in Iowa. I'm originally from the east coast and still consider that to be home. I have 2 sons. One will be entering college this fall and my other is a junior in high school.

I cannot believe it has been 4 weeks all ready. I am selfish and I really created the challenge for me emoticon
I knew I could not do it alone, I did think that maybe there were a few people that were having a hard time committing and that it might've been helpful for them as well emoticon

Thank you Jarenick for making this possible as well!!! emoticon

Good job on matching your all-time streak record. With envelopes in hand, no less! Keep up the good work.
