Running and getting healthy!

This is my second full year with Spark People and I'm ready to firm up this year. I lost 25ish pounds last year and want to build on that progress this year and get past my plateau.

I'm continuing to run a lot- have 2 half marathons on the schedule, as well as the Cherry Blossom 10 miler- so need to keep up the hard work.

I'm looking for some motivation and help on my weight loss journey. I'm also looking to make more friends on here and stop relying on just myself to ...

Hello!

There is a good deal of information on the site wrt emotional eating and depression (there are SparkTeams for those situations that you may want to check out), as well as how to deal with injury (you can do a search on the site and see what comes up).......

Welcome and best wishes!

emoticon To the Wonderful World of SparkPeople emoticon
You have chosen to embark on a great journey to health and fitness and you'll make some great new Spark Friends along the way!
And it's easy if you follow these guidelines...
*Drink your emoticon
*Eat your five servings emoticon
*Track your food and fitness emoticon
*Get in an extra 10 minutes of dancing emoticon
*Get plenty of emoticon
*Believe that you are worth it emoticon
* Keep walking emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You are not alone on this journey. We do not stand in front or behind but beside each other. You can do this. Don't get down if you make a mistake but get back up and do it again and again until you get it right. It will happen. Maybe not today or even tomorrow but you will do it if you believe in yourself. Find that strength deep inside and bring it out. Don't jump into a decision to quit and then regret it. Even a small victory is a step ahead.

emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.

Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways - some of the teams you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.

emoticon

If you haven't already discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.

emoticon

Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

emoticon to Spark People. Get involved with “ Sparking” as much as possible. Posting on the Message Boards or getting involved in the other Community features will help your reach your goals. They say the more you “Spark” the better you will do. Blogging is a great way to express yourself & let people know when you have success and even when you fail. It is good to have the support when you fail and receiving the WOOHOO’s when you succeed! Take advantage of all of the wonderful tools we have available to us on Spark People. Use the Nutrition Tracker. Many newbies are surprised to find out that they are actually eating too few calories. If you are not eating enough calories you will throw your body into Starvation Mode and slow down your weight loss.
Good luck on your new journey to a new and improved you. I am quite sure our paths will cross as I am always on Spark People. emoticon emoticon
