Sticking with it
2012 It's been awhile since I've updated my info here. So last spring, I graduated with honors with a B.S. in Chemistry. Phew! Now what? That's a good question to which I really don't have a good answer. As an acceptable moratorium, I am am now one year (half-way) into a master's in chemistry. Yes, it's possible I may do nothing with my education, but hey! what's life for except to experiment? I am notorious for starting ambitious ventures and never seeing them through, ...
I am notorious for starting ambitious ventures and never seeing them through, so a challenge for me is sticking to what I set out to accomplish, in this case, getting in the best possible shape I can achieve. Looking back over the past few years, I can identify yearly trends. I gain weight in the late summer/fall/winter, and as soon as New Years hits and springtime comes into view, I think 'how did this happen?', I hit the gym, and I lose weight. I usually am successful at losing a steady 1-2lbs per week through watching what I eat and getting to the gym, but then I let myself go, get busy, get stressed, etc., etc. and once again I've found I've sabotaged myself...again. *sigh* But not this time! So far I've made it close to 1/3 of the way to my ultimate goal weight (basically, what my perfectly built younger sister weighs...oh why, genetics, have you been so cruel to me?). I've taken up running and biking and as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer and maybe lose a bit more weight, I'll get swimming as much as possible. I would love to participate in running, biking and triathlon competitions as sometimes I just need a little external motivation. Other than my interest in science and chemistry, I spend a lot of time in a border city in Mexico at a children's home where I feel God has drawn me to for a reason and purpose I've not really fully grasped. This is where my second family lives, and I have many siblings and children there including a 4 year old named Frida. I always leave a little bit of myself there when I come home. I also love the outdoors. I tend to get depressed when I haven't seen the sun in a few days, which is not an uncommon event in Michigan, although lately, the weather's been gorgeous! I love beautiful things and enjoy taking pictures of those things and/or pinning them on pinterest (pinterest.com/katyleng/) :P I also like planning, particular wedding, party, event planning as well as interior decorating. Anything rustic, vintage, shabby, old and worn is right up my ally. I love reading, music and the colors white, beige, all browns, red, yellow and green. Antique shopping and gardening are also interests of mine passed onto me by my amazing mother (KONOSMOM). Oh, and did I mention I am long-winded? Haha...if you've made it this far, add me as a friend! I can use all the motivation I can get. 2008 Hey, my name is Katy. I was a competitive gymnast and synchronized swimmer all throughout high school. I wasn't skinny, but I was pretty fit and healthy. Now that I'm in college, it's been pretty difficult to get into a healthy lifestyle. I've put on some weight, developed a rather poor self body image, and I absolutely hate college cafeterias! Since I'm a big list person and like to get my check marks for the day, I'm hoping this site will bring some structure and motivation to getting healthy. I guess we'll see if it works!

My Program:
My program is simple: decrease calorie intake, increase exercise. Diet: I try and stay within my calorie deficit range, but I also listen to my body and if I'm having a "hungry" day which often happens after I've had several lower calorie days, I increase my calorie intake but make sure to stay under my BMR. I also don't deny myself treats like chocolate or cheese, but I practice self-control and moderation, particularly at parties, birthdays, buffets, etc. which is definitely where I tend to overeat. Additionally, I try to stay within my goal range amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, sodium and potassium. This way, I make sure I get the right amount of everything in my diet. Exercise: I don't exercise everyday because, frankly, I'm often too busy or not motivated enough. However, if I go two or three days without exercise, I start getting really cranky, so I try to get in at least 3 long workouts (500+ calories) or 4 or 5 moderate workouts (250+ calori
