Update time again! A lot has changed since I last updated my into. I got married, have made more steps to improve my nutrition, and won a marathon!

My story: I have always been athletic; I took part in numerous sports when I was younger. I was on the swim team and played soccer in high school. Like many high school girls I thought I was fat and wasn’t. I always watched what I ate because that is how I grew up. My mom’s dad died at a very young age of a heart attack. From the age of 2 years old I have been blessed (ha) with high cholesterol and was forced by my mother to watch what I ate. This of course was a good thing but in high school this started to fade a bit and in college it flew out the window. I played soccer in college so I didn’t gain much weight until my four years of eligibility were up. My senior year I gained about 20 pounds. On my small frame that is a lot! I decided to start working out on my own and became average yet again.
I moved home after graduation and joined weight watchers with my mom. I love their plan and still kind of follow it even though I no longer attend meetings. I am not familiar with their new plan though. I became obsessed with my weight and restricted my calories way beyond what I should have. I then began to binge and purge. This gradually got worse and I eventually even stopped exercising to make time for my unhealthy habit.
I met Alan, my now husband, in fall 2006. He didn’t know it but he helped me beat my bulimia. I later told him about it and he was shocked! We moved in together and we both gain what I like to call our “happy weight.” I became uncomfortable in my own skin but instead of turning to unhealthy habits I began running.

I AM A RUNNER!!!: I had run on and off over the years but never over 3 or 4 miles. I began running again a couple of years ago because it was the best calorie burner. Alan’s best friend talked me into running The Bix (a popular 7 mile run in the Quad Cities) in July 2008. That was it, I was hooked. I found a new love, running of course! I quickly signed up for my 1st ˝ marathon and ended up getting 2nd in the women division. I surprised myself. I am currently on my Marathon mission. I am training for my 1st marathon on April, 11 2009. If I don’t run in the morning I am grumpy.

Update: It is now 4/10 and I have run three marathons. My PR is now 2:51:17, which I ran at the Washington D.C. marathon on March 20th 2011. I am excited to say that I also met a man willing to help me with my running. Well I didn't actually meet him. My parents did and told them about me. He was in shock that I didn't have a coach and when he saw me run he was excited! We are working together and thinking BIG! I am running the Grandma's Marathon on June 19th with the hopes of an Olympic trials qualifying time, which would be 2:46 or under.

I am a true believer that 26.2 miles is an accomplishment in itself. I congratulate everyone who has or is training for this. It isn't only about the physical it is mental as well. The marathon doesn't start at the starting line; it starts 4 months before when you begin the training! It takes dedication and commitment. Believe in yourself! I have learned that this will take you far in your training and in life.
