8/1/2011 - I just signed up for my first marathon. It's the Cleveland Marathon on May 20, 2012. I'm very excited and know it's going to be tough work!

I ran the Cleveland Half Marathon on 5/15/11. My Running Buddy (RB) and I lined up behind two girls that were running their first marathon. They had run the HM in 2010 and wanted it to be their first marathon, too! I knew then that I would be running the marathon the next year, too!

I've been overweight on and off throughout my life. I remember being chubby in high school, but looking back I was much closer to average than I thought. I had it in my head that I was fat, comparing myself to the short and petite girls. I was about 140 at the time.

I'm 28 years old, 5'7", about 158 pounds right now. I always thought 140 would be unhealthy, although the charts say 135-140 would be ideal for my height. I've been at high as 197 (when I saw THAT I got my butt in gear) and as low as 163 in the past ten years in previous weight-loss attempts. When dieting and exercising previously, I'd hit the cardio hard, drop 10-15 pounds and call it quits. Slowly, the weight would creep back on until I was back around 180.

May 2010, my long-term boyfriend and I started working out and eating better as a team. Having a workout buddy is the best, especially having one that knows me so well and is encouraging as well as strict when I make excuses. In return, I cook and cook and cook, trying to get him to eat his veggies!

It's August 2011 now, I've lost 25 pounds and have lost 3-4 inches from my waist and significantly increased my strength. I feel phenomenal, I look ten times better, I'm seeing much more definition in my arm and legs.

The weight has been slowly coming off, my distorted body image has been slowly replaced by a more realistic one, and my relationship has been met with some interesting challenges!

I reset my goal weight to 150, and hope to meet that by the end of 2011. Knowing that it has been slow going to date, my real goal is to look and feel great (which I do!). Whatever number I acheive on the scale isn't as important as that goal!
