Healthy Livin' makes everything better. I'm a 31-year-old momma of two young children and I'm married to a hard-working hunk. The first spark: May 2008, dressing room at local department store: I stood staring, mortified, at the label on the only shorts that would fit me: size 20-22. For several years, I'd been a happy, albeit overweight, size 16. Hitting the 20s knocked me on my ass emotionally. My daughter was nearly two months old at that time, so I was still carrying baby weight, but I was far too big to blame it on baby. With two children depending on me, I knew I had a responsibility to set a healthy example. I knew small steps would be the key to making it last forever, and I was more concerned with being healthy than with looking thin. I remember telling myself, "I don't care if I look this way forever, I just don't want to FEEL this way." And I didn't want my children to ever feel that way, either. I lost about 30 pounds on my own from that moment until July 2008, when I discovered SparkPeople. With the support of Spark, I made even more lifestyle changes and I maintained 150 pounds for a year or so. I got down to around 145 for another year or more. I was comfortably wearing size 8 pants. The summer of 2011 was full of emotional turmoil and I let it all manifest in my weight and lack of exercise. I expanded into a size 12 pants. To rededicate myself to my health, I signed up and completed a half marathon in April 2012 (2:35). Still, for months after the race, I let old habits take over. July 2012, I started back, in earnest, with my original mantra of placing top priority on feeling good and being a healthy example. So far, so good :) Heaviest weight: 205 in May 2008 SP start weight: 176 in July 2008 5K goal: met Oct. 2008! Half Marathon Goal: met April 2012!
