Kathleen's getting fit!

Although I've been athletic all my life, I became a runner after age 55.

After a woman at a Weight Watchers meeting told everyone how much fun she and her senior friends from a walking club had at 5Ks, my curiosity was piqued, and I signed up for my city's annual 5K on March 24, 2012, which happened to fall the Saturday after I turned 55. I was a walker at that time and intended to just walk the race, which I did.

I was a walker at that time and intended to just walk the race, which I did.

I found the event to be so much fun, that I signed up for a couple of more 5Ks that were in the same race series. Before too long, I started jogging and then running.

I signed up for the 2014 Skirt Sports half marathon in Colorado after I realized that it is perfectly acceptable to walk a half marathon. I was so proud of myself for completing it, especially because it was my first race over 5K.

On June 14, 2015, we went back to Colorado and I repeated the Skirt Sports race, now officially called the 13er. Not only was it my 100th race, but it was also my ninth half marathon. (I have also now done 10Ks and 8Ks.)

I am not the fastest participant on the course, and I alternate between walking and running, but I really enjoy it and hope to continue for at least another 100 races.

My "usual" pace is 11-12 minutes, too. But, I did a PR on a 5K in December that was 30:59! So, I know breaking 30:00 is doable. My half marathon PR is 2:28 if that gives you an idea of where I'm at. emoticon

I'm so glad we got a chance to meet at the VP5k today - and good job on your time! Wow, you went a LOT faster than we did!

Hope we can meet up at the Turkey Trot or even before - let me know if you want to do a 'training walk/run' because I'm just starting the 5k walk/run training program. Either way, please keep in touch and hope to see you again before too long!

It was great to meet you at the Villa Park 5K today. Let's keep in touch and meet at the last race of the Quadruple Crown Race Series on Thanksgiving Day either through Sparkpeople and/or Beachbody.
