October 2012 I've been a member for 5 years but have only just come back to SP after a long time. I was initially slightly disheartened to think that in all that time I haven't lost any weight - I'm probably heavier now than I was when I started! But then I realised how lucky I was, firstly to have SP at all - it's FANTASTIC!!, but also to have it already set up and ready to go. I know that the system works and if I follow it I will succeed. I actually enjoy healthy food, veggies, fruit, so it should be possible to build a healthy meal plan. It's just the bad days I have to watch out for, when I forget everything I know about healthy eating and just stuff carbs all day long! And I have more time to exercise now that the children have flown the nest and we've moved to a part of the country that's brilliant for walkers. When I used SP before I really just tracked my food and exercise but this time I'm going to use every aspect of the site to its full and see what works the best. Teams, challenges, blogs, journalling, I've got nothing to lose have I?! Well actually I have quite a lot to lose - about 50 pounds :-) But that's enough of the bad puns for now! November 2012 I'm aiming for size healthy! (thanks Pixielicious for the quote!) I am responsible for what I see. I choose the feelings I experience and set the goals I will achieve. Everything that seems to happen to me I ask for and receive as I have asked. (Deepak Chopra) The trick is to realize that youre always doing what you want to do always. Nobodys making you do anything. Once you get that, you see that youre free and that life is really just a series of choices. Nothing happens to you. You choose. from The Answer Man It isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it. Dale Carnegie

My Program:
Walking: Short-term goal; 8 miles per week Long-term goal; walk the Southwest Coast Path (630 miles!) Maybe not all on the same day though :-) Stretching: daily, to keep aches and pains at bay Nutrition: use weekly calculations (thanks Stonecot!) for calories to average out the peaks and troughs. Watch levels for calcium (osteoporosis) and selenium.
Personal Information:
In my 50s, married with two children, although they've flown the nest now and I am refocusing my life. I saw this article which sums it up very well: http://www.boston.com/news/local/artic les/2006/08/27/i_was_the_sun_the_kids_ were_my_planets/ Well, that was then. This is now. Now that I have more time on my hands I can maybe take up some new hobbies: bungee-jumping?... mountain-boarding?... hmmm, perhaps I'll start with water aerobics and work my way up!! :-) I'm interested in crafts, especially knitting and sewing. I love cooking and enjoy finding and making up new recipes. I like reading too... historical novels, biographies and my most favourite - whodunnits!
Other Information:
From Pixielicious: Even if the challenges are immense and the obstacles are many, step forward and live the life you choose to live. Your dreams are worth every effort. Even if you get knocked down again and again, get right back up and get going. With enough persistence, any goal is within your reach. Even if you can't see all the way to the end of the road, go ahead and take the first step. Each time you make some progress, you'll find new ways to make even more. Even if your results fall short of your expectations, keep making the effort. Each new day brings you more experience, wisdom and effectiveness. Even if you've been deeply disappointed in the past, focus on the positive possibilities. For your future is what you choose to make it now.
