Living a split persona between computer geek and gym rat

Hi, I'm Jessica and I am a 24 year old software engineer from Birmingham, AL. I think this website is the bomb dot com because I've been looking high and low for a gameplan on getting fit and I feel like I'm in the right place.

I'm currently training for my first bodybuilding competition Saturday July 11th. It's the NGA Alabama Natural Open (www.ngalabamaopen.com) and I'm having to kick some booty by having a nice one ;)

My Goals:
Over the last 5 years my body weight has dramatically increase/decrease and the cycle continues. I started out weighing 175lbs and then over 2 years dropped to 135lb through lots of exercise and better eating habits. Then it spiked up to 150lbs and I dropped back down to 138lbs. At the beginning of the year, I was at 155lbs and dropped down to 145lbs over 2 months and felt great. But after April and over the summer, it has spiked to 156lbs and if I dont take action now, I'm worried I will get back to my heaviest. I really hate this because I'm a health nut and a fitness fantatic. I have all of the resources in the world yet I just lack consistancy. I'm really hoping that I can overcome this and start loving my body again.

Other Information:
I'm a pretty active person (active eater too but I'm working on that) and I enjoy cross country running, cycling, martial arts, art, history, and really cheesey jokes.

The phrase "bomb dot com" and your Hannah Montana photos made me chuckle. Kudos!

Happy Spark-ing!

Hi Jessica,

Just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my page. I know a lot of us are in the same boat with yo-yoing. It's hard not to give up without figuring out why.

Good luck to you too!

Oh lucky you to have an italian cook as a partner! Yum!

And yes, muscle weighs more than fat and you need protein to feed those muscles. Muscles are your metabolism, and they burn lots of calories even at rest, like a furnace. Good for you for hitting the free weights!!

I need to do more strength training, I'm more of a cardio queen..

Cya around on SP!

You and I seem to have the same struggle - we both love to work out, but we both love to eat too! Ug! I guess that just means we like Life's sensual pleasures. Oh well, we're doing the right thing and are working on it and participating here!

Keep up the good work!
Laura
