Mission Possible

I have had a weight problem ever since I was 13 years old. I have yoyoed dieted all my adult life. In 1990 I quit smoking and my thyroid died literally. It showed absolutely no function at all. I have had a weight problem ever since I was 13 years old. I have yoyoed dieted all my adult life. In 1990 I quit smoking and my thyroid died literally. It showed absolutely no function at all. I was gaining 5# a day. I contributed it to not smoking. On December 4th, 2007, my doctor told me that I was borderline diabetic. That is when I found Spark People. I don't remember how I even found it. But after looking over the sight and finding out it was free, I joined. For the rest of December I loosely tracked what I was eating. I was shocked how much sodium I consume. No wonder I take three blood pressure pills. I also take cholesterol medication.

I didn't get serious about this program until January 2, 2008. I now plan my meals and snacks. I do cardio 3 days a week (treadmill) and three strength training 3 days a week. I haven't lost any weight yet, but my acid reflux is gone and I don't get indigestion anymore.

I go back to the doctor in three months and he is going to gauge my progress. I told him about this sight and he was very interested. I have told 2 family members and several friends about this sight.

My Goals:
1. Get off at least two of my blood pressure medications.
2. Get off of the cholesterol medication.
3. Lose at least 50 lbs in 2008.
4. Get consistent with my cardio and strength exercisies.

My Program:
I am tracking everything that I eat everyday. That has been a real learning experience.
Right now I am doing cardio exercises 3x a week and I do strength training at least 2x a week.

Happy Mother's Day!

I am writing you today to invite you to join the "100 Days of Summer 2012 Challenge" Spark Team. It's a busy and very involved group, and together many of us are on a mission... er a Sparky Caravan (see my Feb 5th blog!) to drop 20 lbs this summer.

Are you in? Hope so - it might help with gout too (it's the gout group where we "know" one another.

Looks like you are doing great! I didn't know you had thyroid issues. I had mine removed in December. The best thing I ever did for myself. I'm still adjusting meds, but I feel better than ever. Since I have had the thyroid out I have lost about 30lbs.
