Jiggling June's page!
Hi, I'm Hungry Haggis' Mom and she is the reason I joined SparkPeople. Although I've always battled with my weight - I come from the "Sit up and eat up or you won't grow up to be big" and "you must clean your plate" era, but I've never been as fat as I am at the moment. I've always been very active and so was able to conquer previous fat issues but 2 years ago I had both my feet operated on and things didn't go according to plan so it left me in chronic pain and greatly affected my mobility. I got very depressed about the whole thing and I hold my hand up to being a comfort eater in times of stress. This coupled with immobility started the pounds of fat piling on. It's amazing how quick the pounds go on and how incredibly difficult it is to get them off again. It's also amazing how we don't really seem to notice! Christmas was crunch time for me when my daughter said I looked like my late dad sitting in the chair and referred to a picture of him. I knew exactly the picture she meant and realised how big I was getting. My daughter and I are very close and can say anything to each other without the risk of upsetting each other. This is great because sometimes we're just not true to ourselves and we need someone else to guide us in the right direction. I am so glad my daughter told me about SparkPeople. At first I was sceptical - I mean, come on, a free to join diet web site that offered all this support and advice not to say all the on-line work out videos.......FOR FREE! There had to be a catch....... I have to say I've never been so pleased to be wrong in my whole life. I have been so inspired by the SparkPeople website that even my disabled feet don't stop me and I've been able to tailor a lot of the exercise to suit my disabilities. Hungry Haggis and I work out together once a week which is fantastic because we keep each other going. My favorite diet item is my new digital food scales - WOW! they really made me realise how big the portion size was that I used to eat.I've always eaten healthy meals but obviously even healthy meals in an over-sized portion will make you gain weight. Everything now gets weighed. My favorite piece of gym equipement is my Air Walker Cross Trainer because I get a good cardio workout from it without moving my feet so the pain isn't so bad and I feel hyped afterwards - a great way to get rid of the blues! I've lost a total of 8 lbs in weight and a total of 6 1/4 inches of fat in just under a month - not bad for someone with mobility problems. I honestly didn't think I could get back to a 'normal' size and shape but now I'm seeing the improvement I am hell-bent on pushing on until I succeed and with Hungry Haggis' and SparkPeople's support I can't see how I can possibly fail.

My Goals:
I am 55 and measure just 4ft 11 1/2 inches. My start weight was 167lbs. My aim is to get down to 116lbs by Christmas 2011. To stop thinking I can't do something and try thinking more positively I want my health and my activity levels to improve and with a loss of 8 lbs in my firsy month I think all this is totally achievable
My Program:
Portion control - I already eat a very healthy diet although it needed some tweaking but my portions were obviously way off. So I must ensure I weigh all food before adding it to my daily allowance. Exercise every other day or more frequently if possible and use exercises that are tailored to my disability.
Personal Information:
I am a 55 year old widow with some mobility problems. I have a son, a daughter, a son-in-law who is like my own son and 2 granddaughters. Hungry Haggis is my daughter and without her support I wouldn't have joined SparkPeople or kept going so strongly. I also have an over-weight ginger tom cat who refuses to use the gym equipement or succumb to portion size in order to lose weight!
Other Information:
Life is like a box of chocolates - if you eat them all in one sitting then you're going to get fat!
