Getting Skinny is More Fun Than Getting Fat
My page title is my new mantra. So simple, but it took me a long time to realize this!!! I have been a proud and happy member of SparkPeople for about 5 1/2 years. My page title is my new mantra. So simple, but it took me a long time to realize this!!! I have been a proud and happy member of SparkPeople for about 5 1/2 years. It is an extremely important part of my life. I feel like I am the ultimate work in progress. After an initial loss of 40 lbs. in 6 months, I have struggled. My struggles have included gaining back some of the weight and just bouncing around at a certain level. I think things are finally moving in the right direction again. I have become more focused on rules and personal accountability. I am in the process of developing my own set of "Skinny Rules" that I can live with but are essentially non-negotiable. I have some rules in my head and this is evolving, but it will get done. I have been plagued by the sugar monster. I have made quite a few false starts in my efforts to control my sugar consumption. However, I have read many books and watched many videos about the dangerous effects of sugar, and they are finally beginning to sink in. About a month ago, with the start of the BLC-19 challenge, I pledged to give up cookies and a certain milkshake for the duration of the challenge. At this point, I have stayed absolutely true to that pledge. I did allow myself some slack by not insisting on giving up all sugary treats, but I have had remarkably few of those and find that my desire for them has diminished. I am actually enjoying my new eating plan immensely; hence the new title for this page.

Personal Information:
I have lived in Northern NJ for most of my life. I have two great kids, a 27 year old daughter and a 24 year old son who, believe it or not, is actually looking to gain weight. I have also been married to the same guy for 35 years.
Other Information:
For most of my life I was not much of a reader. About six years ago I started listening to books on tape during a long commute, and it became my passion. I started out loving James Patterson and Michael Connelly. I am now into the Stephanie Plum and Kinsey Millhone series.
