Jen does Curves

I have never been on a diet, and never spent endless hours talking or thinking about how I will lose weight. I just knew I had to do it - and continued to stuff too much food into my mouth. Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

My Goals:
I was gestational diabetic - 4 times. Don't want anything more permanent than that! I want to feel proud when people introduce me.

My Program:
I have never dieted or exercised, in a defined way. Now I go to Curves 5 days a week, and walk when I can, it's pretty wet around here at the moment...

Personal Information:
I am a 47yo mother of 4, my partner works 4 hours away mon-fri, home for the weekends, so it's easy to take short cuts, and not 'get around to things'. That needs to change.

Other Information:
I am on a mental plateau, and starting to make dumb food choices. Immersing myself in the spark way is a step to controlling that - I like the SP ethos.

emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Happy New Year and congrats on taking the first step to reaching a healthier you! I'm glad you're getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.

In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.

If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.

Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

If you eat because he has upset you, I think you are letting him control another area of your life...Take control with the area YOU can change and that is what you put in your mouth. Then you will begin to find comfort n being in control!

Hi Jen,

Unfortunately for me, the caffiene doesn't energise me at all like it seems to do to most ppl. I hear how it wakes them up and gives them energy. Not for me, it never has. All it does is, if I have too much or too late I can't fall asleep until until 1 in the morning! Exercise isn't hard for me as long as I do it in the morning.

My corner of Aus is devine! Thanks for asking :D

LOVE your procrastination pix on your page! ROFL Reminds me of the sign I have posted on my yearbook staff's bulletin board. It says "You can procrastinate tomorrow!" LOL

Your blog was very honest and inspiring to me. I had a bad eating day today-- the "natural" cheetos I bought for my youngest-- somehow half the bag disappeared while I was stressing and working on yearbook.... I should know better. Nice to know I'm not the only one who is slipping up once in a while. Thank you so much for your honesty. It was very encouraging. TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY-- FRESH, WITH NO MISTAKES IN IT! Thank you so much for the goodie - and thank you for finding my journey has been inspiring!!
I too know all about plateaus - I seem to lurch from one to the next!! Sometimes I can get off by making a change, or 2, or 3!! But often they just have to run their course!!
They play havoc with motivation too - but this is where SP comes in!! The support is always there if you ask for it!!
I find the Just Do It Team a great help - the Deficit challenge that is run every week there can really help - or show where the problem is!!
Anyway - I wish you best wishes in your journey to health and fittness!!
