I am 49 and would like to be at a healthy weight by my 50th birthday. After children my weight went up a little (about 20 pounds), but I seemed able to control it. I walked for exercise. Then when my youngest started kindergarten I started working full time as an elementary teacher. It seemed as though with the time needed to be a good teacher and a good mother all time for myself was gone. My weight went up and up until I was close to 200 pounds. I decided that for my 40th birthday present to myself I would lose the weight and I did! I walked off 65 pounds. Unfortunately, I also walked my ankle right out of joint. At first the pain was just there niggling at me. As time went on it got worse and worse until I could barely walk. There were two Christmases where the pain was so bad that I couldn't take my kids Christmas shopping. It finally got to the point where I had to use crutches. Teaching on crutches is no fun. It was then I decide to have surgery. In March 2002 I had my ankle fused. Though the pain was less when I walked, I was always fearful of the pain and I limited the amount of walking I did. Needless to say the weight began to creep back on until I had regained almost all of the weight I had lost. When I was referred to sparkpeople I had lost about 20 pounds over two years, but seemed to be unable to lose any more. I seemed to be playing with the same 10 pounds again and again. Since joining sparkpeople I have lost 1.4 pounds. Not much I know. I started slow and sometimes it takes me awhile to get up to cruising speed. I am looking forward to great success with SP as I learn the ins and outs of the website, reach out to people for friendship and support, and finally learn to eat a balanced diet and sustain myself through exercise.

My Goals:
My goals are to track the food I eat, drink 10 glasses of water a day, and to swim 3 times a week for 30 minutes and use the elliptical trainer 3 times a week for 30 minutes.
Personal Information:
I am originally from Massachusetts. I spent 20 years in Northern California where I went to college and started my family and career as a teacher. Now I live and work in Colorado with my husband and kids, my son is 21 and my daughter is almost 19.
