Happy & Healthy Holidays!!

Wishing you a very Happy & Healthy Holiday Season, no matter what holiday you celebrate, or don't celebrate! I am a Christmas person myself! But, I accept and like to learn about every religion and celebration!

Hi, my name is Melissa. I am nearing 50 (just 6 short months away) and am totally blind from Type I diabetes. BTW, no matter what you read or see, Type I Diabetes cannot be cured by diet and exercise. Diet & exercise can help control it, but as of now, nothing can cure it other than a pancreas transplant!

I teach psychology part time at our local community college and I am a licensed professional counselor, but have not worked as a therapist in awhile now.

My Goals:
My goal over the Christmas holiday is to stay on track, watch my portions and follow my Weight Watchers and 100 Day plan.

My Program:
I am a member of Weight Watchers and I just started the 100 Days of Weight Loss program. I will be using both programs as ways to keep me fit and not gaining over the holidays!

Personal Information:
I am totally blind as a result of Type 1 Diabetes and living the wild life in my younger days! I "celebrated" 45 years of being diabetic this May. I live in lovely South VA and have a wonderful husband and spoiled mutt named Sassy. She is a handful, but it is worth it!

Other Information:
I love reading and especially enjoy psychological thrillers, mysteries, stories featuring dogs and the occasional occult novel like Stephen King or Dean Koontz. I am an avid belly dancer, but have only recently started to dance again since my mother's death on 12/12/12! I still have not gotten back into belly dancing mostly due to transportation problems since my dad had a stroke in 2013 and he was my ride! I enjoy water! I love swimming, water aerobics, water jogging and more! I walk a mile with leslie Samsone everyday and sometimes more. I actually enjoy exercising! I love summer!! I also try to make it to Curves at least 3 times a week and do the Curves Smart program which pushes me to improve my workout each time! Plus I am an avid follower of Jessica Smith's video workouts!

Never Quit.

If you stumble, Get Back Up.

What happened yesterday No Longer Matters.

Today’s another day, so get back on track, stay on track, and move closer to your dreams and goals.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Recipe for a Merry Christmas

To a cup of tradition, time-honored and dear,
Add a generous portion of holiday cheer,
Combine with the memories of Christmases past,
Then sprinkle the mixture with joy unsurpassed.
Add a dash of good spirits, stir fondly until
You set it to rise in the warmth of good will.
Pour love over all in generous measure,
And garnish with laughter and heartwarming pleasure.

Thank you for the Candy Cane, new friend! You mentioned our ornament exchange. A small group of friends (4) have met for a Christmas lunch every year for over 20 years. We each bring 3 ornaments that we have purchased or made and over they years the girls have decorated my tree beautifully! Occasionally we wonder if we should stop but it is an inexpensive way to celebrate our friendship and besides, now it is a Christmas tradition.

Hi Melissa, welcome to 100 Days! I enjoyed reading your 20 reasons to lose weight - all good ones!
I'm a Dean Koontz fan also; can't wait to read the new Odd book! I'm really impressed with all you do in spite of your Diabetes and I agree that many people think ALL diabetes can be cured with diet. Often Diabetes 2 patients are able to reverse their diagnosis but it is never as simple as it sounds. I have known many diabetics from working in nursing homes and I know what a struggle it is. I'm sorry that you have lost your eyesight.
Maybe one day pancreatic transplants will be more available; I have heard that, as you said, a transplant is the only cure for Type I.
I enjoyed reading your page and hope you enjoy the 100 Days to Weight Loss team. Welcome!

This Holiday Season, give yourself the gift of self-motivation:

1. Review your reasons for wanting to be healthier.

2. Think about how you felt when you began your new healthy lifestyle. You remember . . . tired, low energy, lots of aches and pains, miserable, embarrassed, etc. and pay close attention to the smallest changes in your body. Think about how far you’ve come so far.

3. Challenge yourself . . . the try some new, healthy food options; a new form of exercise; walk farther; run faster; whatever. Just make sure the challenge you set is realistic for you.

4. Set up reminders to keep yourself on track – they can be sticky notes taped to your computer monitor, automatic text messages/emails you send yourself, or anything else that will keep your goals front and center in your mind.

5. Surround yourself with others who are positive and motivated.

6. Read success stories or watch them on video.

7. Learn as much as you can about healthy lifestyles. In this case, education CAN be free! There is a ton of good info on this site or in your local library. Knowledge is POWER!

8. Just Get Moving! Once you start, you’ll want to keep going.

9. Keep a record of your progress. Seeing concrete evidence of your improvement will motivate you to do even more/better.

10. Help others when you can.

Keep going!

You are SPARKTACULAR!
