After seeing a photo of myself taken at a 2010 New Years Eve party, I decided I needed to do an overhaul. I was weighing in at 200 lbs. which was the highest I have ever weighed. An issue with high blood pressure and ankle pain had also developed. I had steadily gained weight over the years and decided it was time to slim down. I have always been athletic but had lapsed into a season of inactivity. Even though I was secretly embarrassed to do so, (being obese according to my BMI), I started to play tennis with an established group at the city courts in January 2010. After playing for 7 months I hadn't lost any weight according to the scale, but appeared more fit with inches lost. Then I discovered Spark People. Now, after being persistent in working the Spark People program I am realizing it is actually possible to achieve my weight loss goals!
I have learned so many new dietary strategies. It has been a long learning process of trial and error to find a personal lifestyle that works for me and I am making progress.
Restarting after the Holidays - January 2011
I have hit a plateau and need to increase my metabolism. I keep going up one and down 1 pound!
Summer 2011 - Restarting after a very stressful time. Thankfully, things are going much better and I hope to make some serious headway with more weight loss.
Spring 2012 - I have been on a plateau FOREVER! I seriously need to cut some more calories off of my daily intake.
Summer 2012 - I have cut down on (but not eliminated) "white food" consumption (rice, bread, potatoes) and almost eliminated drinking wine or beer as I notice it stops fat burning and it stimulates my appetite which is a stumbling block toward more weight loss.
I thought of a great goal recently which is to fit into a beautiful coat my husband bought me years ago when I was in my early 30's, about a size 12. It is a classic style so I have kept it all these years and with the success I am having with Spark I realized this would be a realistic and exciting goal for me to shoot for!
I play tennis 5-6 times a week.
Water aerobics twice a week.
An occasional bike ride.
Strength training and stretching twice a week.
Maintain a 1100-1300 caloric intake per day.
Drink water, drink water, drink water...
Get plenty of zzzzzz's!
I have been married to my dear and loving hubby for 30 years.
We have raised 6 children: 3 stepdaughters in their 30's, 2 son's, 21 and 25, and 1 daughter, 18, who is still at home.
I home schooled the latter 3 children for 10+ years and they are currently in college.
I work with my hubbie in his advertising & marketing business.
I am also a dog lover and have a lovable yellow lab named "Teddy".
I enjoy photography, tennis, art and cooking.

I'm celebrating my 5 year anniversary with Spark People. I've lost 54 pounds thanks to motivating and supportive Spark friends like you! I have some more to lose but am grateful for where I am because of things you've shared during your journey! Thank you so very much for being there!

I've had rather mediocre attendance here in SparkLand all of 2014 but I'm hoping this year to do much better.
