Ahoy!

My husband and I have swashed our buckles a few times at the Portland Pirate Festival, and my pirate name is Iron Bess.

A few years ago on the day before my birthday, I received a scary medical diagnosis. I sure didn't feel like an Iron Bess then. I've realized with time, however, that I'm not defined by a medical condition, that I'm still a person with hopes, joys, dreams, abilities, good friends and family.

My Goals:
To weigh less each month until I reach my goal.

I've divided the total desired weight loss into 10-lb. mini-goals which I aim to accomplish quarterly at the change of the seasons until I reach goal weight of 125-130 lbs. Seems less daunting and more achievable that way.

My Program:
*Ride exercise bike or real bike 1 mile or more at least three days a week plus occasional other exercise such as Wii, yoga, walk, dance for variety.
*Core strength exercises 2-3 times a week
*Follow old Neuropsychology of Weight Control program
*Eat nourishing whole food, low fat, low or no refined carbs

Personal Information:
We live in a magical Mountain West location of the US.

Other Information:
I like skywatching, bicycling, lake kayaking, organic gardening, travel, crochet, archaeology, nature, movies, music (esp. world music, jazz). Beginner playing Native American flute.

I love the story about your husband and your friend's wife being born in the same hospital on the same day! Thanks for the smile and giggle!

Hi Bess,

Thanks for your comment on my "Rookie Mistakes" blog. I am pretty sure that anybody that rides a bike is going to have a mishap now-and-then. I have my fair share. I am not cautious by nature.

I enjoy writing, but I don't think I am all that good. I have to think about the subject for awhile and do a lot of editing. I am also not a good photographer. I have a small digital camera that takes okay photos. I take a lot of photos with my phone but get my fingers in the way most of the time!

I write about what interests me. There are a few people, but not many, that are mildly interested in similar things. I try to keep the subject light and leave out esoteric details that fascinate me to no end. But would bore 99% of the adult population to tears!

Thanks, Bruce
