IOWAGRAMMA is a SparkPeople Motivator!
I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 12 and 9, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our first great-grandchild, a girl!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Spring Challenge, as well as my team activities.
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

Getting rain every day and another storm coming through sometime during the night. High winds, hail and rain all seem to be the packages this week. The storms are training through on a daily basis. Getting rather tiresome. Wish I could send some that direction!! And I bet the farmers here would as well!!

It was a lady of mom's age. As I was growing up, there were 4 families that did all kinds of things together. All farm families, summer camping and cards about every other Sat. We kids played together a lot and rode horses to each other's homes. So you can see we were close. There is one couple left of the group. 2 guys died quite a while ago. One lady about 6 mos. ago and now this lady. So we kids felt we had to come no matter what and they were so glad. We actually sat in the church about 4 hrs. visiting with people we haven't seen for yrs. Sad to have to have someone die to visit the family. I am sure this will be the case when mom goes as well.
Will be watching the weather again tonight as there is another storm building out west and they figure it to be here during the late night, before dawn. Of course that's a Sioux City station so I figure about dawn here.

Hi Jeannie - This weekend is our Victoria Day long weekend - it is "a Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. The date is also, simultaneously, that on which the current reigning Canadian sovereign's (Queen Elizabeth) official birthday is recognized." I had to actually look it up in order to explain it!
We do not have a Memorial day in the spring, but we do honour our veterans on November 11th (Remembrance Day).
I hope you enjoy your long weekend too!

About your sister being difficult. My Mom was in a nursing home back in the eighties/early nineties, til her death. There was a woman who considered my mom her friend, she was very hard of hearing so they just hung out without too many words. I always gave her a hug and a smile when I came in. She was in a wheel chair. One day I was in a rush and forgot to stop to find her to give her a hug. She chewed me out royally (which was something she did regularly to the nurses and staff for every minor infraction) A very slim and handsome woman in her 90's. In my mom's last months, I I finally met her daughter and son in law. He told me her very wonderful story. She had been a world renown dancer. She often went to Paris to give performances and when she married, Al Capone attended the ceremony and party afterwards. You never know a person's history. Thought you would enjoy this story. Hugs, Linda
