My present to me, for keeping the faith

Fitness is a life long trek.
No matter where you are right now, this very day, you can feel better, look better, and be more at home in your skin.
See that picture of red shoes to the left? I gave them to me as a spark goodie last year. Funny thing, last week I BOUGHT those shoes. ;)
I updated my ticker last year, because I was ready to be honest about something that ashamed me, even though this site isn't as closed as I'd like. I weighed 245 at my heaviest. It was in early 2002 or so, I wasn't happy, I "ate right" I worked out, I was still at 245. I didn't like my job, and several other aspects of my life. There are very few pictures of me during that time, because pictures didn't reflect what I felt like inside. I finally realized I'll be dead some day and my kids will be sad they don't have pictures, so I started allowing pictures again- even though I don't look "perfect"
I started weight watchers, even though I thought it was 'your mother's diet" and I lost about 20 pounds, then I joined weight watchers and Iost about 24 more.
Some weeks, even with eating right on point track, and working out, there was NO weight loss, I'd get this look from my leaders like I wasn't telling the truth about what I ate (logged all that) and told to just try harder. B.S. I knew I wasn't cheating. I'd done body for life in the past with good results, and even on WW I stayed away from processed foods and did my best to eat healthy. I stopped WW when the group that met near me stopped meeting. I still worked out and "ate healthy" but I still hovered about 215, would go down and back up depending on the time of year.
I know a lot about nutrition, as I've been studying it since I was 15. I also do yoga, and yes when I tell people I teach yoga, I sometimes get this look up and down my body because I'm not skinny.
I have worked out since I was 12, yoga, weights, running, aerobics, walking, etc. I have muscle, but I have fat too.
I've been up and down on the weight scale, my entire life. I finally decided to take the care I gave others and give it to me too.
That means taking time to eat right, to exercise and to have fun.
I made some written goals and decided to live along the way. And loving myself has paid off in spades in the love I have for other people.
In fact this year when I made my New Year's intentions, it was more about being grateful, taking care of myself and loving others.

"I believe there's an inner power that makes winners or losers. And the winners are the ones who really listen to the truth of their hearts."
What do you hunger for? What is the truth of your heart? The same sun that gently warms us most times, can start fires when it is focused. When you hunger for something, it keeps you focused and that focus makes a huge difference. It is the difference between surviving and thriving, between lukewarm and red hot.

The Journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. But if you stop you won't get anywhere after that first step, just keep moving.
I found SparkPeople in July 08 through a friend. I was still about 215, and It has helped me stay focused on my goals. It was slow going for me and that drives me crazy. I get frustrated because that same friend met her goals, and has moved on, and a lot of other friends quit and gained the weight back.
My progress is slow, but when I count the things that seem small, like maintaining, more energy, looking great "for my age". I hit my first goal in 2008 and have kept that progress for five years now! As I get older, I stay healthy and strong and meet challenges with new energy. That my friends, is winning.
And in Jan 2012 I decided to just suck it up and do the Paleo diet. My body fat and my scale have been sliding downward every since. And my energy level has soared. I got treatment for what may have been a hormonal thing. (herbs and special tea and between the three and me things have worked) I lost more weight, gained more health and stayed there. I'm still in the 80s, which for 5'4" is a bit over what it should be, but I look about 15 years younger than I am, so something is working.
And my goals have changed over the years, its never just been weight loss, its been health maintenance, and as the birthdays pile up and stress comes in its various forms, now its energy, fitness, longevity, keeping a positive attitude in a negative world. I never want to be a sad person who sits around saying "I'm so old" and I know people who do that. Being happy, healthy and full of joy are awesome goals.
Health, energy, life itself, love, laughter, joy, and all that, I have met so many goals that I didn't specifically name.
Live, Love, Laugh, in any order you want.
"Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way."
So in May of 2012 I had the courage to be honest, and to look at my true weight goal and put it on the tracker, something I thought I'd never be able to do, because I truly believe in me and it doesn't seem so far out of the possibilities. And because I finally realized it was just a number, not an excuse, not anything special. I am more than a number on a scale.
1. Lose 40 pounds in 2013.
2. Eat a healthy diet while doing so.
3. Finish the Little Rock Half Marathon
4. finish my floors in my house
5. A daily yoga practice
6. Dance Dance Dance (I need more dancing in my life)
7. Finish my company's highest fitness challenge.
Food- I'm doing a Paleo/Primal combo (I consider it vegetarian -but I eat meat ;)
a daily yoga practice
(isn't always daily)
a personal trainer 2x week. training for a half marathon

Multisport miles challenge is a monthly number. So the first # is what you completed that day, 2nd is a running total for the month, and 3rd is your January monthly goal. Hope that helps.

Doing well, having some sleep issues but still sticking to the primal diet. Did buy some no flour bread I liked this weekend which should have helped increase my glycogen levels but I still could not sleep. Stayed up 23 hrs. on Saturday and still not getting enough.
So frustrating but hopefully my body will get back in balance.

Hi and thank you for stopping by and commenting on my blog. I didn't eat the cookie until yesterday, Saturday, I had been following the program until then. However, your suggestion is a good one and I keep all that on hand and I also keep fruit handy as well. I really don't have a problem with cravings, when I follow the plan, but because I hadn't made any progress this week I kind of decided to have sweets and other things that I shouldn't have, more of an emotional thing.
I am back on track now, but I still have to figure out what I am eating that is hindering my progress, it could just be that I haven't given it enough time. But I am going to reduce the amount of yogurt & fruit that I am eating, it was more than occasionally, more like 3 - 4 times last week after dinner. I considered the yogurt and fruit as dessert, but I really had enough to eat, I just wanted the yogurt/fruit because I like it, probably to satisfy my sweet tooth... more emotional than anything.
Well, thanks again, I will of course keep you posted. I am starting the challenge again on Tuesday.
