Enjoying this stage in the journey of life...

Diagnosed with colon cancer in September, 2011 - currently NED (No Evidence of Disease).

Now I'm working on eating healthy and getting fit enough to get back to the activities that I enjoy.

I'm a dedicated foodie, and am finally learning to cook in order to get my nutrition in the tastiest possible ways.

Well, apparently having a lot of fun and learning to cook is a successful strategy: I just hit the 50lb down mark.

The Man and I are loving the menu that we've created, and are still having a blast.

For anyone else who has limited ability to exercise - hang in there! It really is more about the nutrition, and it's definitely possible to eat extremely well on limited calorie budget!

Updated September 24, 2013:

I changed scales a couple of months ago, and discovered that my original analogue one was 5 lbs "kinder" than my new digital one. I didn't change anything at the time, just started recording weights based on the new scale (so it looked like a long plateau).

Now that I'm on a time-line and more focused on that silly number between my toes, I figured it was time to correct my starting weight to what it should have been --- and discovered that I have actually passed the 60 lbs down!

Still having fun, still playing with new foods, and still completely comfortable with making little changes that will be permanent...

Updated January 23, 2014:

Hit the "healthy" BMI range (for me, it's around 119-162) a week or so ago, and now the surgeon tells me that he's content that my current weight will not increase the risk for a future hernia. So - I'm now in "maintenance" on the weight, and will be looking at very gradually building muscle back up. Woohoo!

He still wants me to go very, very slowly but I'm gonna have so much fun with this!

Updated August 14, 2014:

Seems like my body has its own idea of what weight it should be, so kept losing even after I hit "maintenance" and started increasing the calories. I hit 150 lbs back on May 27, and that seems to be about where I am stabilizing, so I've now put that as my "goal weight".

My Goals:
Getting healthy enough to hike the back country, and regain the lean muscle mass that I've lost over the past couple of years.

My Program:
- diligently track my nutrients to ensure adequate iron, folate, and sodium levels

- have a lot of fun

- keep experimenting with this whole cooking thing, to keep coming up with healthier foods that taste so good that "unhealthy" stuff just isn't worth a look

Personal Information:
Starting Weight: 240 lbs
Surgeon says I'm good, so Maintenance Weight: 160 lbs (reached Jan. 23, 2014)
Revised Maintenance Weight: 155 lbs (reached March 7, 2014)
Revised Maintenance Weight: 150 lbs (reached May 27, 2014)
Maintenance Range: + or - 5lbs

Other Information:
I don't do "goals".

I don't do "motivational sayings" (but will be happy to come up with de-motivational sayings).

I don't do restrictions, deprivation, guilt, or discipline.

I DO make small, healthier changes that make me happy, because being happier and healthier is the only reason I started on this.
